I hate espn's stupid contrived stats, but when they involve packers I still hate them...just a little less.

Anyway, heard on Gottlieb (sp?) today that only 2 NFL qbs have ever thrown for more than 30 TDs but less than 7 ints in a season. One is Mr. Wrangler Jeans, and the other is Mr. Rodgers!

Well, that's certainly esteemed company there.

And both happened in 2009, correct?

Did you know that Jennings and Driver are the first WR duo to each go for 1,000 yards in back-to-back years, while combing for 5 tackles in the 2nd year?

That may not even be true, but I'm being sarcastic. I agree with the original poster. Choosing arbitrary numbers as statistical baselines is nothing more than airtime filler.

We ascribe importance to numbers ourselves. There is nothing intrinsically important about a 3:59 mile run than a 4:01 mile run other than the fact that the former is 2 seconds faster.

In the same way, a 30 TD, 10 Int statistical measure is not necessarily more meaningful than 30 TD, 7 Int.

It's kind of funny how people were up in arms about not letting Rodgers have the single franchise passing record. It makes no difference whether Rodgers has it or not; Schaub threw for 4700 yards this season, which would have shattered Dickey's records.

People need yardsticks to gauge performance. It's just too bad that most people view numbers in absolutes than performances relative to a statistical mean or cross sectional analysis.

during the game I think they had a stat that the packers were the first team in history to in consecutive years...

have a qb throw for 4,000 + yards
2 wrs with at least 1,000 yards
1 rb with at least 1,200 yards

1,200 yards...really? I know what you're saying about the 4:00 mile and yes it's an arbitrary number, but a fairly 'logical' number that represented a human plateau , at least until 1954, and has developed a similar lore amongst US high school runners. It's at least a somewhat logical barrier...1200 yards (or 7 picks) on the other hand are bascially just defined by a stat they want to attempt to validate.

But I digress. Great season by Rogers and exciting to see him proving to be close to Favre's equal ALREADY (at least statistically).

But Rodgers didn't throw less than 7 INTs. He threw exactly 7 INTs.

Well, one of those was a perfect pass that was tipped and then ... oh never mind, we don't want to be LITERAL about this.
