I was recently watching clips of the Packers season. I have to give respect to the coaching staff for their offensive game plan overall. I know most people hate Mike McCarthy but honestly if you look at the amount of plays where we have a WR or TE WIDE OPEN, its pretty amazing. If you compare it to other teams, its even more amazing.

Obviously the TEs, WRs are running great routes and Rodgers is finding them with the right reads but our coaching staff is drawing up some good plays IMO. I cannot remember which game it was but there was a game where the commentators were taking about how all game they were setting up the Big package staying and blocking for one play for the TE to release. And Finley I believe it was released late in the game and he was wide open for a HUGE gain.

I still think it is insane for the same team to keep getting so many penalties and the running gameplan seems flawed to me (I swear I am about to get to a compliment!) but I have to give them credit for drawing up and setting up for some of those pass plays. I think we take for granted those wide-open shots down the field. Cheers to MM, I still don't like you for some reason but I will give credit where credit is due.

The Packers are within 29 points of the franchise record for points in a season. Not bad considering that there are hundreds of people on the Internet who could call plays way better than Mike McCarthy if given the opportunity. I know. They've told me so.

As I have said before, my objection with Mike McCarthy is not his overall bodz of work -- it's his situational choices. He seems to get intimidated in big games and complacent against inferior opponents.

But we're winning, so I will give him just credit and root for my team. I don't have to like his style anymore than I like the styles of some of my professors, even when I acknowledge they're good professors.

McCarthy is very solid as a playcaller until he gets a lead or has a chance to take a lead late in a game. Then, he naturally gets conservative which could be a product of being mentored by Marty Schottenheimer. Still, for every "what are you doing" type of play, McCarthy's offense always seems to score a lot of points. That's all you can expect out of them when you look at the big picture.

I've been impressed with him this season. He's grown as a playcaller this 2nd half because he's adjusted his style so much mid-season. GB went from a down the field passing team trying to copy the New Orleans Saints to a short passing attack that setsup everything. Deep pass, run etc.....

I agree with Porky.

In the NFL, I've said it over and over again, aggression is a good thing. You keep scoring until the fat lady sings. You never rush 3 people when a sack wins the game.

And the Patriots did that and that's one of the few things I liked about them. They kept the pedal to the metal. I hope we do that from the next game on out. Screw sportsmanship, if you can't stop us, we are not going to do it for you!

Second half of the season has been much better. More short plays setting up the big hitters. Early they were trying to use big hitters to set up big hitters. Early the bad blocking and slow developing plays almost cost us a QB. Luckily the Oline has solidified some and the O Coaching realized that we are a WCO team.

I will be the first to admit that I have to eat crow for calling for MM's head during mid season (I stated that if we went less than 8-8 that he should be fired). As Twins and Porky have said, I believe that setting up with short plays has been critical for the difference. I still see a bit too many long plays in the game plan early which I think has led to the feeling that we start slow due to the challenge for executing these plays. I don't know whether that is on Rodgers or Mike McCarthy though.

ya I made comments on this - wondering where our screens and short plays went too and how come arizona and min were doing this with older QBs that couldnt move; while we got the most mobile QB that was getting sacked like crazy.

If we go 11-5, it will be about the only correct prediction I've made all year -- but it's the one I want most to happen.

dfosterf (2h) : I'm going with a combination of the two.
beast (4h) : Either the Cowboys have no idea what they're doing, or they're targeting their former OC, currently the Eagles OC
Zero2Cool (20h) : Fake news. Cowboys say no
Zero2Cool (21h) : Mystery candidate in the Cowboys head coaching search believed to be Packers ST Coordinator Rich Bisaccia.
beast (23-Jan) : Also why do both NYC teams have absolutely horrible OL for over a decade?
beast (23-Jan) : I wonder why the Jets always hire defensive coaches to be head coach
Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : Still HC positions available out there. I wonder if Hafley pops up for one
Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : Trent Baalke is out as the Jaguars GM.
dfosterf (22-Jan) : Jeff Hafley would have been a better choice, fortunately they don't know that. Someone will figure that out next off season
Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : Aaron Glenn Planning To Take Jets HC Job

Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : Thank you

Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : Thank you. I rarely get sick, and even more rarely sick to the point I can't work.
wpr (22-Jan) : Beast- back to yesterday, I CAN say OSU your have been Michigan IF the odds of making the playoffs were more urgent.
dfosterf (22-Jan) : Glad to hear you are feeling a bit better.
Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : I've been near death ill last several days, finally feel less dead and site issues.
Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : It is a big deal. This host is having issues. It's frustrating.
Martha Careful (22-Jan) : just kidding...it was down
Martha Careful (22-Jan) : you were blocked yesterday, due to a a recalcitrant demeanor yesterday in the penalty box for a recalcitrant demeanor
dfosterf (22-Jan) : Was that site shutdown on your end or mine? No big deal, just curious
beast (21-Jan) : That way teams like Indiana and SMU don't make the conference championships by simply avoiding all the other good teams in their own confere
beast (21-Jan) : Also, with these "Super Conferences" instead of a single conference champion, have 4 teams make a Conference playoffs.
beast (21-Jan) : Also in college football, is a bye week a good or bad thing?
Martha Careful (21-Jan) : The tournament format was fine. Seeding could use some work.
beast (21-Jan) : You can't assume Ohio State would of won the Michigan game...
beast (21-Jan) : Rankings were 1) Oregon 2) Georgia 3) Texas 4) Penn State 5) Notre Dame 6) Ohio State, none of the rest mattered
wpr (21-Jan) : Texas, ND and OSU would have been fighting for the final 2 slots.
wpr (21-Jan) : Oregon and Georgia were locks. Without the luxury of extra playoff berths, Ohios St would have been more focused on Michigan game.
wpr (21-Jan) : Zero, no. If there were only 4 teams Ohio State would have been one of them. Boise St and ASU would not have been selected.
Zero2Cool (21-Jan) : So that was 7 vs 8, that means in BCS they never would made it?
Martha Careful (21-Jan) : A great game. Give ND credit for coming back, although I am please with the outcome.
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : FG to make it academic
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : and there's the dagger
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : ooooo 8 point game with 4 minutes to go!
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : ooooooooohhhhhh he missed!
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Ooooo that completion makes things VERY interesting
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Game not over yet
beast (21-Jan) : Oh yeah, Georgia starting quarterback season ending elbow injury
beast (21-Jan) : Sadly something happened to Georgia... they should be playing in this game against Ohio State
beast (21-Jan) : I thought Ohio State and Texas were both better than Notre Dame & Penn State
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Notre Lame getting rolled
Martha Careful (21-Jan) : Ohio State just got punched in the gut. Lets see how they respond
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Notre Lame vs the Luckeyes, bleh
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Oh snap!!!
Zero2Cool (21-Jan) : Even Stevie Wonder can see that.
Zero2Cool (21-Jan) : Nah, you see Lions OC leaving to be HC of Bears is directly related to Packers.
