I agree we'll benefit but not for the reason he states.

We have a lot of ascending players hitting free agency (Collins, Jolly etc). An uncapped year gives us time and cap space to lock them up.

Does anyone have a list of how much franchise and transition tags for 2010 are going to be? I believe every team will have one franchise and two transition tags to use on players scheduled to become free agents after this season.

Looking at our group of veteran UFAs next year, the only players who are possibly worth using those tags on are Pickett and Kampman imo. Kampman though would obviously be a gamble because that would be a lot of money to sink into a guy who doesn't necessarily fit the current scheme and is coming off a torn ACL. I could easily see the team just letting him walk or trying to re-sign him to a lower one-year contract. A 30 year-old DE with a bum knee probably isn't going to be able to command a long-term contract in free agency.

I don't see any way he re-signs with us. a) he doesnt fit the scheme and would rather go to a 4-3. b) Ted Thompson has been wary of paying big for guys 30 and over especially a guy coming off a blown knee.

I just hope we somehow get some compensation for him which would involve a tag and trade like we did with Corey Williams.

Short term we are good money wise. We make more money than we spend now and could survive going negative if we had to until a new cap is put in place. 2010 will be uncapped. I see no way there is any shot at getting a new CBA before FA. My idea is that the CBA will be done before 2010 season, but it will be done with the new cap not going into place until 2011.
The world needs ditch diggers too Danny!!!
