I think dropping off the pressure was a root key in this loss. Or the fact that you drop 8 into coverage yet let your least tested player single up in coverage..

I would question either of those decisions late in the game before burning more clock and taking possible points off the board.

I like the idea of it all.. but I still would like our chances with this defense in that situation again.. the Steelers exploited a familiar defense.. as we did to them.. I think that is the element that has been overlooked in this disappointing performance by this defense.. familiarity on each others defense and blitz schemes.

So if we kick the FG.. al the Steelers have to do is kick one back.. and it isn't like they didn't beat us deep in this game..

Eng - This is a good post, but I still have no opinion.

I do however have a question. Was it MJD who had a clear TD, but knelt down on the 1 yard line then they went on to win the game? I think this was two or three weeks ago.

This scenario actually happened this year.

I'm not sure if it happened this year. I do know that it did happen to a pretty big name RB and got the team a win, after the fullback kept shouting at him to drop down before the endzone (or maybe that was in an even earlier game and it's happened since).

Yes, i am emotionally driven at this point.
But Crosby almost missed at least one extra point yesterday as well. (I think 2 were close to not making it) So it's not just my emotions.
Of course looking back now, you say maybe thats what we should have tried. But again, Jones had the TD sewn up. Thats at least 6 for sure points, given up on a "maybe" field goal.
Hindsight is always 20/20 of course.
I don't remember which D lineman it was, but the 2nd to last play, he Had Rothlishamburglar sacked, if he would have wrapped him up. He makes that tackle, game over, we win. But of course he didn't.

Knowing what we know, yeah he should've, but that's not fair to hold any player to that type of responsibility. Crosby may of shanked the kick. He almost missed two extra points in the game.

I think you have to put it on your defense.

Yes i think it was MJD who did it too but they were under 2 minutes and i dont think the other team had any time outs. But i still thought it was stupid of him to do. Anything could go wrong, bad snap, fumble, holding penalties, there is just too much to risk.

I think it was the right decision to get the touchdown. It put us up 4 points after the touchdown, so the Steelers needed a touchdown to win. That is much harder to do then getting into field goal range and kicking the winning field goal. Especially when you have our special teams who can give up a huge kick return and put the Steelers right in field goal range to win it.

Cheesy - cullen jenkins blew the sack
Pack93 - great point about familiarity with the 3-4 schemes.

This post - novel idea T.E., thought provoking, but cheeseheads made a great point. In all likelihood they get the ball back and only have to advance it to the ~35 to have a shot at a win if you kick a FG. They have to advance it to the 0 to have a shot at a win if Jones goes in.

Even in hindsight, you go for the TD. Were it not for a chillar penalty on an INT, or jenkins biffed sack, the packers win this game and there's no discussion.

I was thinking the exact same thing last night, but as everyone else has already said, there were too many things that could've gone wrong, with the biggest risk being that Crosby might miss the field goal.

I would take the touchdown and put the game in the hands of the defence every time.

If he did take a knee, and something did go wrong and we ended up not scoring, then everyone would be saying Dingo cost us the game and should've just ran into the endzone.

Hindsight's a bitch.
