I don't know if you would consider a 3rd rounder a steal but I really think Finley was a steal on draft day.

I had seen him in action and knew he had great potential but for some reason can't seem to remember what was the reason he slipped.

He was very young. Wasn't he a redshirt sophomore or something when he came out for the draft? He had loads of potential but he wasn't a polished player yet. They've done a very good job coaching him up, and he has added some serious muscle to his build as well. The dude is an absolute beast. I would take him over Olsen hands down right now.

Exactly. This is the kind of guy who I want in the late 2nd, 3rd round. Not some career back-up 'for depth', but some unpolished guy who can go somewhere. The miss chance might be a little higher, but the rewards can be far greater, as well.

Finley and Collins are the best examples of just that.

So are Abdul Hodge and Marviel Underwood.

Just your preference, I guess. I like his approach. I like it a lot.

As to Finley himself, the sky is the limit for this kid. He's not the brightest, but if he just doesn't screw up, he'll be a great contributer for quite a while.

The thing that I haven't seen a whole lot is his blocking. I figure he has and can improve on that quite a bit as he fills his frame a little more. He can sure as hell chip, lol.

Ah, I see it now. I'm amazed they didn't call a hold on the guy (his number ends with 8 ) who kept pushing Ogunleye back into the turf after Finley tackled him.

Maybe it was a mercy call, with Barbre already getting manhandled by Ogunleye all game long. Lol.

That is because Barbre wasn't holding him.. there is nothing in the rulebook that says you can't keep a play pinned to the ground with your hands inside the shoulders and not grabbing him..

BTW.. nice play by Finley.. that is how chips should be done.

Finley would have been drafted much higher had he stayed in college longer. As the announcers said, he should have been playing in the BCS championship this year with Colt Mccoy. There is no doubt in my mind that he would be talked about in the first round had he stayed the two years at Texas.

Finley does so much for this offense. It is great to have a tight end that has wide receiver speed and freakish height.

The only thing that concerns me is what he has been going through now. Players are constantly going after his knees because of his size and it seems that every time he gets hit low, his knees are bothered. Just an observation.

He opens up a lot of other possibilities for this offense and gives Rodgers a big target. His age is key and how much he has matured over one year is great. He can be a great tight end for a long time.

When I played they encouraged me to drive my guy to the ground (typical hat on a hat power offense), and straight up fall on him so that he couldn't move until the play was over. Needless to say, I did it quite a bit and it always surprised me what it did for my confidence and the other guys morale. I loved it.

Total ownage. Man I miss it!

The best block I ever had was against Wausau West and some jagoff that thought he was king shit... I drove his ass 10 to 15 yards out of the play then jacked his ass to the ground ass over tea kettle.. the boys went nutz.. and mister motor mouth said very little after the fact.. it was like he was on skates.. piss poor technique he had.. strong kid but understood notta a damn thing about leverage.

That's awesome. I think that's the main thing I understood about playing football at that age was getting low. Get low enough, thrust my forearm straight up getting it under their arms and getting them on their heels. It was allll over from there. Mmmm.

Man I miss it!
