A bumblebee (or bumble bee) is any member of the bee genus Bombus, in the family Apidae. There are over 250 known species, existing primarily in the Northern Hemisphere.

Bumblebees are social insects that are characterized by black and yellow body hairs, often in bands. However, some species have orange or red on their bodies, or may be entirely black.[1] Another obvious (but not unique) characteristic is the soft nature of the hair (long, branched setae), called pile, that covers their entire body, making them appear and feel fuzzy. They are best distinguished from similarly large, fuzzy bees by the form of the female hind leg, which is modified to form a corbicula; a shiny concave surface that is bare, but surrounded by a fringe of hairs used to transport pollen (in similar bees, the hind leg is completely hairy, and pollen grains are wedged into the hairs for transport).

Like their relatives the honey bees, bumblebees feed on nectar and gather pollen to feed their young.

It should be renamed the Kevin Bacon thread, however, since clearly every idea in the known universe is less than six degrees of separation from any other.

This picture, showing a Mongolian yurt, reminds me of my sojourn in southern Iraq. You'd have a ramshackle one-room rock hut, not even held together with mortar, with nothing but a blue tarp for a roof, but there'd be a satellite dish on top and a Mercedes parked out front!

On January 17, 1991, a USAF EF-111 crew: Captain James Denton and Captain Brent Brandon ("Brandini") are acknowledged to have scored a kill against an Iraqi Dassault Mirage F1, which they managed to maneuver into the ground, making it the first and only F-111 to achieve an aerial victory over another aircraft.
Brent Brandon (1960 - ) is a former U.S. Air Force officer and Electronic Warfare Officer who scored an air-to-air kill against an Iraqi Dassault Mirage F1, in the opening minutes of the Gulf War on January 17, 1991. During an engagement that involved aggressive, low-altitude maneuvering, the F-1 impacted the ground making Brandon's unarmed EF-111 the first and only F-111 to achieve an aerial victory over another aircraft.

I've always considered Onoda-san's story one of the most interesting in the history of warfare. Well done, Foster.

I can link to Bacon in 3 moves.

My Freshman year of high school spent in Cincinnati, Ohio.
My cousin followed 3 years later and was classmates with Tom Mapother IV. (Tom Cruise).
Tom was in the film "A Few Good Men" with Kevin Bacon.
