I hate hearing of these types of injuries.. hopefully it turns out well.

Thompson taken to hospital with neck injury
By Greg A. Bedard of the Journal Sentinel
Dec. 4, 2009 1:01 p.m.

Green Bay - Linebacker Jeremy Thompson was taken to a local hospital via an ambulance because of a "neck stinger" suffered near the end of practice, coach Mike McCarthy said.

"He was taken to the hospital for testing," McCarthy said. "It happened near the end of practice. That's all the information I have for you.

"It happened in a team drill. He went down. We're taking the high side of caution here."

McCarthy was with Thompson while he was put into the ambulance. The coordinators took the team back inside the Hutson Center and completed the practice period to finish practice.

This is at least the third stinger Thompson, a second-round pick out of Wake Forest in 2008, has suffered with the Packers.

Backup tackle T.J. Lang did not practice because of a concussion suffered in Thursday's practice. Chad Clifton continued to be limited with a hamstring injury.

"We'll take the week to get through our injuries like we always do," McCarthy said. "T.J. Lang has a concussion so we're taking the high road on that. I don't anticipate he'll practice tomorrow, so we'll take the week to prepare.

"I thought (Clifton) looked good with his rehab. Tomorrow will be key, how he responds to the individual work."

1: Jesus, what's with all the concussions!?

2: Hope Thompson doesn't have that neck narrowing thing that Terrence Murphy had.

Man, are these guys having some sort of super intense practices or something? WTF!

Wow another concussion, when will they end?

From what I know, stingers are really painful (name comes from the feeling your nerves give you), but nothing season ending.

Of course I could be very very wrong.

Kind of scary article.

After reading Michael Silver's article about Kurt Warner and concussions, any concussion has me a bit worried. Hope TJ Lang is ok. And of course hope Thompson's stinger is too. I had the same thought Nerdmann had about Murphy.

More from Bedford

Greg Bedard - A visibly shaken Kregg Lumpkin said Thompson's injury happened when he attempted to tackle Lumpkin. "I just heard him say, 'Oh no.'" 12-04

Any type of neck injury is a serious injury and I hope this turns out alright for Thompson. I am glad they are taking high precaution with this. As for the concussions, the reason you are all hearing more and more about it this season than any other is because of the rout the NFL has taken with this injury.

I believe everything has passed now and Goodell has every team being assigned a neurosurgeon for this specific injuries. The NFL is not playing around with this injury anymore so anything minor or close to a concussion will probably be deemed a concussion.

Stingers or burners is a compression of the spinal column.

Sometimes it is nothing. Sometimes there is some swelling that takes time to go away. You never know with those. The Packers having him checked at the hospital is being very cautious. I'm not very concerned yet.

The concussion to Lang is more troublesome. Clifton hasn't practiced and Lang is out with all the high profile "concussion awareness" being the big buzz in the NFL right now.

No Lang and no Clifton means Colledge at LT and Dietrich-Smith will play Guard.

The ESPN can bemoan the Offensive Line woes of the Packers this season.

I hope McCarthy is smart enough to put in some Rodgers roll outs to the right. He hasn't adjusted much this season and it has hurt the outcome of a few games.

Clifton has become too unreliable to remain with the team next season.

I dont actually think that there are that many more concussions going on here, though for the packers it seems that way this year. I think what is happening league wise, is that teams are being much more cautious with them than they have in the past, and likely a lot of small things that wouldn't even have been reported as concussions they're now looking at more seriously. Not just teams, but also players i think recognize the long term effects and are more apt to put serious concern into it, and not just throw themselves back in the game as they have in the past.

beast (30m) : Martha said Morgan had a lot of help, I didn't watch the OL so I can't say.
Zero2Cool (10-Aug) : Packers LT Jordan Morgan did not allow a single pressure across 23 pass-blocking snaps vs. Jets last night, per PFF
Mucky Tundra (10-Aug) : With buckeye and the reasonable couple, we're currently sitting at 10

dfosterf (10-Aug) : Just gotta figure out how.
dfosterf (10-Aug) : Could have been a worse start, so there is that.
beast (10-Aug) : Yeah, someone tell the Packers football season has started, seems like they weren't ready for it
Mucky Tundra (10-Aug) : Sooooooo many penalties
Mucky Tundra (10-Aug) : It may only be preseason, but this game is a trip to the dentist

beast (8-Aug) : But the Return from IR designations had to be applied by the 53 man cutdown.
beast (8-Aug) : It's a new rule, so it's not clear, but my understanding was that they could be IR'd at any time
Mucky Tundra (8-Aug) : *had to be IRed at 53
Mucky Tundra (8-Aug) : beast, I thought the designate return from IR players had to be IR at cutdowns to 53, not before
beast (8-Aug) : It's a brand new rule, either last season or this season, prior, all pre-season IRs were done for the season
beast (8-Aug) : But the Packers would have to use one for their return from IR spots on him, when they cut down to 53.
beast (8-Aug) : I think the NFL recently changed the IR rules, so maybe the season might not be over for OL Glover.
Zero2Cool (8-Aug) : Packers star Howton, first NFLPA prez, dies at 95 😔
dfosterf (8-Aug) : Apparently it is too complicated for several to follow your simple instructions, but I digress
dfosterf (8-Aug) : Zero- Did you see what I posted about Voice of Reason and his wife? She posted over at fleaflicker that they are both "In"
Zero2Cool (7-Aug) : Well, not crazy, it makes sense. Crazy I didn't notice/find it earlier
Zero2Cool (7-Aug) : it's crazy how one stored procedure to get data bogged everything down for speed here
dfosterf (7-Aug) : to herd cats or goldfish without a bowl. They reminded me of the annual assembly of our fantasy league

dfosterf (7-Aug) : Yesterday my wife and I spent the afternoon on the waterfront here in Alexandria, Va. A daycare company took about 15 three/four year olds
wpr (7-Aug) : seems faster. yay
dfosterf (7-Aug) : Wife of reason posted on the in/out thread on fleaflicker that both she and vor are in

Mucky Tundra (7-Aug) : Tbh, I can never tell the difference in speed unless it's completely shitting the bed
Zero2Cool (7-Aug) : Sure does feel like site is more snappy
Zero2Cool (6-Aug) : I thought that was the Lions OL
Mucky Tundra (6-Aug) : Travis Glover placed on IR; seasons over for him
Zero2Cool (6-Aug) : found bad sql in database, maybe site faster now?
dfosterf (5-Aug) : I'm going to call that a good move.
Zero2Cool (4-Aug) : Packers sign CB Corey Ballentine
Zero2Cool (4-Aug) : I'm not sure how to kill the draft order just yet so it's not so confusing.
Mucky Tundra (4-Aug) : *to be able
Mucky Tundra (4-Aug) : and because it's not a dynasty league (which makes a lot more sense to be ability to trade picks)
Mucky Tundra (4-Aug) : Oh I know; I was just exploring and it blew my mind that you could trade picks because of the whole reordering thing
