Dude has had some sort of mystery injury all saeson long....why would we want him?

Reading some of the responses at finhaven, its apparent that Roth was decent at playing against the run, but not much else.

On top of that, it looks like he has had issues with injuries lately, where he apparently admitted to lying about the severity of his groin strain, making his injury appear more serious than it was and missing games intentionally - never a good thing.

Seems like he is an intense effort player, but beyond that there are definite concerns. Seems like he wanted a new contract out of the Dolphins, and decided to stoop to some low levels to try and get it.

I went ahead and read what was said.

You can look at that commentary one of two ways. I think that you took it at face value, which is in fact illuminating.

But then, let's remember what WE would be likely to do in this type of scenario, as a fan forum.

I would submit that there would be a LOT of "good riddance" sentiment for a LOT of "marginal" football players on our team.


What struck me over at the fish forum-

They are confused about this waiver. Confusion is good.

I saw VERY LITTLE criticism of him. Very little criticism is good.


I just think that should be factored in. I mean, what can you expect to hit that waiver-wire--probowlers?

This is about as good as it could get, right about now, imo

Yep...WHEN he is on the field he can play decently.....but he has not been on the field with any consistency. Availability trumps productivity...especially for a guy who would be a fringe player on this team.

An Iowa player replacing another Iowa player...sounds good to me. :thumbright:

I remember watch Roth at Iowa and he can play! He is very intense and IMO he would be a great addition! I think it is odd that he was cut, I am not a fan of his agent but still think this would be good.

My question on this whole Packers should make a play at him is why?

Why take another conversion project? Kampman is twice the pass rusher this kid is currently and he struggled to make the transition.

When you make a commitment to a certain defensive scheme/alignment, not all players are going to fit into that alignment.. especially the way Capers dials up pressure packages..

Roth was a very good college player.. and might develop into a good pro player.. but after a couple of years hasn't done so yet. So why take him over Jones or Thompson? Or Poppinga for that matter?

He looks misplaced in a 3-4.. much like Kampman.

It is no where near as cut and dried, regarding Roth, Pack93z. imo This is not his transition year, last year was, and he transitioned well, by most accounts. He was out 6 games this year, and he did have a surgery. Kampy is gone-so I don't know what good it is to compare them, but of course, I will anyway, at least regarding "works in progress, etc"

How about that for some irony? Looks like the biggest difference between Kampy and Roth is the 'tude, lol...going Roth's way, for cripes sake.

Roth is a powerful 275 pounder who does not possess the athleticism to make that power beneficial in terms of getting to the QB. Too small for DL, too big for OLB.

OLB needs to be athletic enough to cover and get to the QB....dude ain't got the tools....he is a vert average DE in a 4-3.

Not gonna argue it, It just made some sense to me.

He will not make it past the Browns anyway. Even they can figure this one out.
