At the very least, bringing someone in should send a message to Crosby and maybe the threat of being without a job will force him to instinctively focus better.

I know, probably a longshot, but worth a try.

That missed FG was in the 2nd quarter. A 3 point swing dramatically affects how agressive the packers are on the final drive (e.g. run out the clock since, in theory would have had 1 pt. lead)

Don't get me wrong, I hate the guy right now, but you're reaching for air if you're blaming the loss on him

His holders have a lot to do with it too. Ever since Jon Ryan was cut Crosby has looked far worse.

Good point. Cutting Jon Ryan might have been the biggest mistake Packers management has made over the past few years. (Even though overall, I think they do a great job) But why? All because of 1 bad game in Chicago that year? In what Favre himself said was the worst weather conditions he's ever played in..

Ryan could freakin' BOMB it every once in while.

Well guys, maybe we should start playing like Patriots. Screw field goals and just go for it on anything closer than 4th and 7. I've pretty much come to expect Crosby to miss one every week. It was only a matter of time before he missed one in a close game

They absolutely should have gone for it on 4th and 1. I was saying that to the people I was watching the game with even before they lined up for the field goal.

No way you cut Crosby loose.... the guy has one of the best legs in the league, and come playoff time we'll need it for deep kickoffs. Crosby has proven he can get decent hang time, and our return coverage teams can use every bit of help they get.

That said, I'm not sure what bringing in kickers to look at Monday or Tuesday does. Crosby sure as hell knows he's messed up, so trying to send a message by trying out another kicker shouldn't be an option.

If you bring someone in, sign them... that's my point. Don't bring in kickers to try to send some message of missed kicks being unacceptable... Crosby no doubt knows this.

I'd say cut S Matt Goirdino (or whatever his name is) and sign a kicker. If you bring in any kickers, you damn well better intend to sign one of them because we need more consistency in the kicking dept. Crosby should be left for the deep kickoffs though.

During his playing days at the University of Colorado, Crosby was widely considered the best kicker in college football, as evidenced by ESPN draft expert Mel Kiper Jr.'s Top 5 Seniors by position in 2006. Crosby was a unanimous selection as a First Team All American by the Associated Press, the Football Writers Association of America, The Sporting News, and Walter Camp Football Foundation for the 2005 NCAA Division I-A football season. He was the runner-up for the Lou Groza Award, despite being heavily favored to win.

During his senior season at Colorado, Mason Crosby became the first player in Big 12 Conference history to be named player of the week eight times.[3] In late 2006, he also became Colorado's all-time leading scorer, with 308 career points. The previous record holder was Eric Bieniemy (1987-1990) with 254.

While enrolled at Colorado, Crosby displayed extraordinary leg strength, making a school record 60-yard field goal against Iowa State in 2004. Crosbys 58-yard field goal against Miami in 2005 was the longest ever kicked in NCAA Division I-A football at sea-level without a tee.[4] In all, Crosby holds 31 school records. Throughout his Colorado career, Crosby retained his accuracy, connecting on 66 of 88 field goals in total, and 30 of 34 inside 40-yards.[2]

During college, Crosby developed a reputation for kicking in the clutch, making 12 of 13 field goals in the fourth quarter, and a perfect 10-10 in the final 8 1/2 minutes of games. This bent was most evident when Crosby played rival Colorado State University, against which Crosby made kicks of 55 (2004), 48, and 47 yards (2005) in consecutive years to win the Rocky Mountain Showdown.

Crosby also served as the Buffs' kickoff specialist, where his knack for forcing touchbacks after touchdowns made him a fan favorite. Overall, 138 of Crosby's 203 career kickoffs were touchbacks, including an 87-yard kickoff touchback from the 20-yard-line against Iowa State in 2004.[2]

I think it's obvious that either Mason Crosby is experiencing the effects of a lingering injury, or his psyche is shot, or both. In my opinion, the Packers should take do the merciful thing and take the pressure off Crosby for a few weeks. Here are a couple of suggestions:

A) Come clean about the injury, put Crosby on IR, and send him back to Colorado for a few month's rehabilitation and work with his college kicking coach; or

B) Bench him for the next two weeks, bring a journeyman kicker in relief (he couldn't do any worse), and do whatever it takes to bring Crosby's college kicking coach into Green Bay immediately -- make him the highest paid special teams coach in the league, hire him a hooker, buy him a house, whatever -- and hopefully have Crosby refreshed and ready to go for the playoffs; or

C) As a last resort, don't bench Crosby but do whatever it takes to bring in his college kicking coach to work with him for the remainder of the season.

How about bringing a new kicker so he could actually break a sweat for his role and actually make those crucial 3 pts !!! I feel his just like: "Who cares if I miss a FG there's no one that's going to grab my role ... (Missed kick) ... It's all right I'll try to get the next one ... I'm still getting paid and have my role."

There is no doubt in my mind that his psyche is shot to hell.
Like nonstop, I believe that there is a physical injury involved.

I realize that kickers are fragile both physically and mentally, hell, they are barely part of the team but how could this kid have fallen so far so fast from his stellar college days.

Perhaps they should bring in a kicking guru to try to straighten him out.
I don't think our special teams coaching is that special in any phase of special teams performance let alone a specialty like place kicking.

I think his confidence is shot. I don't see this an injury issue when he's knocking kickoffs to the goal line in that kind of weather and I certainly don't think he's standing around not worried about his job. That's rediculous. EVERY NFL player knows how short the string is on either being in the league or out.

I am no prophet but you will see someone in here this week. Mason is a heck of a kicker who's brain is toast right now and it's a dilema for them because they can't afford to really let him work his way through this. Not this time of year. It's a shame because this guy could be one of the top three kickers in the league but he's obviously looking up at the goal post and seeing them about six inches apart right now.

That miss yesterday was big. Pittsburgh should have had no way of takng the lead on that last drive.
