If you ask me, they should just stop this entire fanvote. Kampman? Tahi? Farwell? These guys get voted in on past performances and by blind fandom.
Most laughable one : Woodson is in third place, while clearly being the best corner in the NFC. Want to know who's in second place? Antoine Winfield. Next to not even being close to Woodson in skill, he's been injured for 3 games, as well. This is just ridiculous.

It's the fans that decide to go/watch it. Hell yeah they/we should get a 1/3 vote.
The Pro Bowl is a popularity contest. There is absolutely nothing riding on the game. My question is.. Why are people pissy about the voting?
If there were something important that rode on the game (like MLB's All Star game) then I can understand why people don't like it.
Until then, this is a non-issue.

It's not a popularity contest, it's a blind homerism vote. I mean, Tahi? I've seen nothing but complaining about the guy. All of a sudden he's popular?
"Rockmolder" wrote:
Yes, blind homerism votes. I don't watch the Pro Bowl to watch some fools that put on yellow helmets. I watch it to see players from MY favorite team. Again, the public are the people paying to see the game, they are also the ones watching it. Take them away, and you don't have any sort of Pro Bowl.

You mean like before 1995? There was a Pro Bowl long before fans could vote. And you usually wouldn't get in because you where a member of a team or when you threw 22 TDs and 22 Ints. People are just voting on big names, even if they don't deserve it, and constantly voting their own players in. You'd really rather have Tahi in than Mughelli? Or Hedgecock?

In most cases, one's reputation precede's their stats. That was Favre last year. It didn't matter, though. He didn't play, so the next guy got bumped up. That's a nonissue. And yes, I'm going to continue vote my teams' players in. The only guy on that list that's currently leading that I don't care about seeing is Tahi. I really don't care about that position.
I don't care that there's nothing riding on this game. It should just include the best players of that year.

That's what the Super Bowl is for, home boy.
"Formo" wrote:
Tell that to Eric Dickerson. I'm sure he'll like to know that Wendell Tyler was a better RB than him in the 1984 season, because he got to the Super Bowl.
"Rockmolder" wrote:
How long has Dickerson played? I think if he played any sort of time in this league he could have found a team that's close to being a contender.
Apparently, fans are too thick to accomplish even that single feat. So, stop the voting process. Let the experts do it. I'm pretty sure that we won't see Tahi, Kampman and random ST dude in purple in Miami then.
"Rockmolder" wrote:
It's only 1/3 of the vote. The players' peers and the media has a vote as well. I'm pretty sure they'll even out by the end of the voting process.
"Formo" wrote:
They'll somewhat even it out, but you can't possibly take out a whole lot of Vikings players at this point without causing an uproar. I mean, just look at last year. Favre got into the pro-bowl because of fan voting. You can't possibly take a player like that out without fans complaining.

Uproar? Peterson, fullback Fahu Tahi, tackle Bryant McKinnie, guard Steve Hutchinson, center John Sullivan (who?), kicker Ryan Longwell, kick returner Percy Harvin, defensive end Jared Allen, defensive tackle Kevin Williams, and special-teamer Heath Farwell are in first place at their respective positions. Outside of Tahi and Sullivan, every one of those guys probably deserves to be voted number 1 at their position. If not number 1, maybe number 2. And if you don't like that Tahi and Sullivan are at number 1, maybe you should find the players that are obviously better than them and start a campaign.
To me, it just sounds like Viking fans started their campaign a bit earlier than other teams.
Just mark my words. Deserved or not, Peterson will be in the pro bowl for years to come. Doesn't matter what kind of stats he puts up. Or he'll have to take a nosedive like Tomlinson did.
Random Kid - 1250 yards, 10 TDs, 4.7 avg.
Peterson - 1150 yards, 8 TDs, 4.4 avg.
Guess who's going to be in on fan votes.
"Rockmolder" wrote:
Again, deserved for that year or not.. Players' reputations will precede their stats. They'd have to have a serious nosedive like Tomlinson. IMO, it's pretty fair.
BTW, have you noticed the improvement on MNs ST? Especially coverage? Heath Farwell has always been a staple on that unit, and now he's healthy, finally. I know he's not the only reason why there's a turn around, but he's still a BIG factor. Everyone that has watched the purple the past few years knows this.
"Rockmolder" wrote:
I'll give you that one, as I can't honestly say how good the other ST players in the league are. We have no Steve Tasker in the league right now. That said, have you noticed the improvement on GBs ST this last game?....
"Formo" wrote:
I don't follow other teams special teams, so I couldn't tell you. I'd have to look up stats, depending if there are even ST stats for coverage teams.
Thanks to TheViking88 for the sig!!
