Why wouldn't Cowher come here?

There certainly are a lot of decent candidates out there - Cowher, Billick, Gruden, Shanahan. Definitely a lot of choices for the Pack. I could see Gruden in Green Bay. Not so sure on the others.

Conventional wisdom says you hire the guy who was the exact opposite of the guy you fired - Gruden would fit this in many regards.

Another guy that should be looked at though, is Mike Zimmer of the Bengals. His defenses are great, and he's a really high energy type coach. I'd be interested in seeing what he could do with the Packers.

We have a really good passing game in spite of these things. It keeps us in games we have no business being in but this is a 9-7 team at best till other areas are improved.

Gruden would be my pick. Rodgers fits his system and yeah he kissed ass to Favre, but why not, Favre is playing out of his mind right now and Gruden keeps in touch with him.

I think Gruden is a perfect fit for a young team and most importantly, Green Bay. I think it's a match made in heaven.

Unfortunately, we'll probably have to deal with this again next year.

The root of the problem is Ted Thompson, unless we can find a coach to tell him whats what we'll end up in the same situation.

I DON'T want Holmgren. I really like the idea of Gruden. He has fire for the game. Something I don't and haven't seen on our team in a LONG time.

However, I don't think Thompson would hire someone with the resume of a Gruden, or Cowher. Thompson's ego wouldn't let it. As long as Thompson is here, we will be stuck with a head coach like McCarthy.

We need to start a long term solution though. Who is a coach that can give us a good solid ten years that is available?

If there is one coach I could wish we had right now it would be Mike Singletary. That way we could keep the Mike legacy going and get a coach that is not going to tolerate sloppiness.

Maybe we can pick up a coordinator from the Falcons or Saints though.

Sadley, I have to agree. Time for a change. Too much talent on this team to be 4-4 with 1conference loss and 2 division losses.

Yep. This is the thing, the Packers have talent. Even on the defensive line, GB has some good players. Now maybe not as talented as Minnesota, but GB has several solid football players. McCarthy is not reaching them and he's not gameplanning well. Baring a miracle, Green Bay is an eight win team at best and I think that's pushing it. He needs to go IMO.

This is starting to feel eerily like the 70's and 80's.
I never gave up on them back then so I guess I can endure this as well.

There's a lot of young talent on this team which leads me to believe that hiring a person without previous head coaching experience would be a disaster. They need to bring a guy in that knows how to bring players together as a team, can discipline young players and also knows how to make adjustments mid-game.

I've always liked Gruden and I think he could bring a lot of passion and fire to the team. Cowher I think is overrated but I can't pinpoint why I feel that way. Shannahan was great in Denver but for some reason I just don't see him coming to Green Bay. Billick I don't know much about.
