People, IMO are missing the main point (or implication) of this column piece...

It throws out there, perhaps too subtly, the idea that the executive committee was pulling the strings largely in the Favre saga.

Historically, when the executive committee had too much pull, the teams have gone downward. When Harlan kept the committee confined within limits, the team tended to perform well on the field. Mark Murphy might not be on top of his game.... or so Cliff suggests.

If you read a COLUMN as an article ... well then you're going to find yr time has been wasted.

dd80, I get your implication, and I think it's unwarranted. I didn't make my comment about this article because I agreed or disagreed with its premise. I was making the point that virtually all articles on the Press Gazette and the Journal Sentinel are shameless opinion pieces. The advent of the blog has diluted journalism to the point where there's little to no objective analysis anymore. This is the age of the columnist. The investigator has gone by the wayside. What little investigative journalism still exists isn't much different. They don't look into an issue to determine truth -- they concoct a thesis and they dig up whatever evidence they can to support it.

Last week, my two partners and I had to give a public presentation in which we admitted our neurophysiological hypothesis was dead wrong. How often do journalists these days admit when they are wrong? It practically doesn't happen, and even when it does, it's usually accompanied by excuses.

Point taken, although I think people can accurately infer what I meant to say... judging a column piece by whether or not it reveals anymore details of what went on does a disservice to the piece.

It raises an issue that is interesting, although as Greg pointed out (and I agree with him) Cliff's support for his proposition is shockingly weak.

You make a good point, AADP, about the executive committee. I did some research (i.e., googling) on this issue and saw that there was speculation from the very beginning that Fleischer was hired to spin the Favre story. Given the timeline, that certainly sounds possible. At the time, I had taken the Packers at face value when they said he was hired as some kind of motivational speaker.

But Cristl goes way overboard here on the basis of no real evidence. He uses some charged words that suggest that he has an agenda. For example, he said that the NFL ruled that the Packer's tampering charge was "unfounded." They ruled that there was insufficient evidence to support it. Cristl's word "unfounded" implies that it was totally made up.

Stuff like the Ryan Pickett quote is kind of weird too. How does a quote from a random teammate figure into such a serious article? And there's more, but I have to go now.

You had a neurophysicological hypothesis?

Yep. My group hypothesized that there might be a correlation between brain activation patterns characteristic of color vision and those found in dreaming. It turned out we were dead wrong. We had to eat our humble pie publicly (particularly me, since I was the primary driver behind the hypothesis). But it was cathartic and refreshing somehow, and we blew the other, purely informative presentations out of the water. 😃

That's cool man. In science, nothing's really personal.

Zero2Cool (1h) : oops meant $10m cap hit

dfosterf (3h) : Poor bastards only have 11

Mucky Tundra (10-Mar) : The Hall of Fame stuff probably came from a scout as Zero said; at this point though it's hard to see them moving ZT from RT
Mucky Tundra (10-Mar) : Regarding ZT at C, Gute had said he felt C was ZTs best position after he was drafted.
Zero2Cool (10-Mar) : LB Oren Burks to sign a 2-year, $5M deal with the Bengals.
Zero2Cool (10-Mar) : Based on how it was worded at the time, probably scout.
beast (10-Mar) : I don't think the media person ever told the public the source, but Gute or LaFleur did say they thought Tom has earned his spot at OT
beast (10-Mar) : I think it was supposedly unnamed Packers source
buckeyepackfan (10-Mar) : Was that Gute or Lefleur or someone else?
buckeyepackfan (10-Mar) : Zach Tom could be a really good guard, an all pro tackle, but probably be a HOF Center. Who said that?
Zero2Cool (10-Mar) : It's March 10th. I don't think anything is done.
Martha Careful (10-Mar) : if we think CB is done, we have a poor roster
Mucky Tundra (10-Mar) : CB and OG in FA, narrows down the top of the draft board a little
Martha Careful (10-Mar) : Meh....I hope we can get Ward 49ers or Murphy Vikings
