Anybody that was around "that other board" 5 years ago knows that I was anti Ted Thompson from the time he attempted to utter his 1st complete sentence in his 1st press conference as Green Bay GM.
I stood pretty much alone on that issue.

Seeing that I was one of the few people in the world feeling this way, I publicly declared a cease fire until 4 years was up.

During this time I never really denigrated McCarthy. I felt that he was being handcuffed by Thompsons poor personnel decisions, so I left the guy alone.

Now we have seen 5 years of Thompsons drafts and free agency periods.

What do we have?
No NFL caliber offensive line.
Our safety position is pretty sad.
Our running backs are pedestrian even when healthy.
The linebacker core is, what, I don't even know what to say.
There is no depth at virtually any position except perhaps wide receiver.

Aside for hitting on a few over the last 5 years Thompsons drafting has been pathetic.

Now the gloves are off on McCarthy.
Never mind his conservative or at times outrageous playcalling, or his inability to adjust during a game.
His constant overworked line; we have to fix this, or we've got to clean up that, has worn me out.

It's time for a change in leadership in Green Bay.
I lived through the 70's and 80's.
I honestly never thought it could happen again but things are starting to look eerily familiar.

It's a strange time to go after the LBrs, having just held the NFL's best RB to 2.2 ypc.

You have points regarding the OL and S positions, even though you're criticizing them without mentioning the key injuries that forced us to play without our starting LT, LG, and SS vs. Minnesota.

I'm not sure what depth you're looking for when our castoffs are being picked up by other teams extremely fast.

My issues with them are far more specific. Dropping Smith for Martin was a bad move.

Kudos, +1 for that. Lets cite specific examples here folks. To further develop masspackerfans point, More emphasis should have been placed on the SS position in the offseason. Bigby was a question mark after last season and a good half of a year does not make a guy safe in my book. If smith was the guy he should have stayed around after going through a whole offseason. Instead of bringing in a guy (Martin) the week before the regular season.
Well now here we are. I personally think after Martins play on monday that Cwood sould start at saftey and have Williams start oppsite Harris. We need to be putting our best players on the field! Martins play is inexcusible.

4 games and everyone's calling for the people's heads already. The season isn't over--give them longer to prove themselves.

Regardless of the Viking game, the linebackers do not look good IMHO.

Key injuries go back to the lack of depth.

Castoffs are being picked up, but are they starting or even active for the teams that claimed them?( i'm thinking of the Bills and Rams)

Dropping Smith for Martin is what I'm talking about as far as bad personnel moves.

Oh, and lets not forget about the losing record over the last 4 1/4 seasons.

From what I can see, the 13-3 season was an aberration driven by a QB whom I had hoped would have retired by then.

You don't win trophies after four games and GMs and Head Coaches rarely get fired after four games either.

TT's record saw him bring a 4-12 team to 8-8 respectability to 13-3 and then back down to 6-10.

The question is, after this year will the trajectory continue to head downwards or will it return to the upward trend of previous seasons?

Talk about it all you want but the top two won't be going anywhere until after the season.

Sadly if you want Ted Thompson gone you probably will have to root for the Packers to lose heavily this season.

Before the season, I was of the opinion that this is a make or break year for both or McCarthy.

I haven't changed from that opinion.

I thought the two clinching games would be verses the Vikings, we have lost one of them already.

I think it is too early to make a call on whether this regime is staying or going, but if we continue to struggle the way we have, especially jogging out an embarrassing unit like the Oline all season long, then I think someone if not both with see the end of their Green Bay run.

To me, it is that imperative that they patch up this offensive line and figure out their identity on defense during this bye week.

I don't have much issue with the Players being excused from Green Bay this week, but that coaching staff and pro player scouts better be burning the midnight oil.

My wife, my youngest son and I were watching the Mike McCarthy Show last night.
I just keep my mouth shut and try to let everybody have their own opinion and enjoy the show.
At the end my wife stated this: " he never answers a question, he just talks around it."
Even she, who knows nothing about football, is getting the picture.

No OL? I think Clifton, Colledge and Spitz hold up nicely and we need a true RT and I think Sitton is doing okay. Haven't heard his name much.
Safety, agreed. Behind starters = hell. CUT BUSH.
RB's agreed, they are average at best.
LB core is pretty solid with Kampman, Chillar, Bishop and Mathews, in my opinon. After those, it's hazy.
I don't disagree much with the depth either.

Again, we still do not have any real true blue chippers on the team. No 10's and a lot of 6's and 7's with some 8's and 9's sprinkled in. But what do you expect when most of your roster is built from day two picks and tier three free agents?

As I and others have said. Ted, good job building the core of the team. Thank you. NOW it is TIME to take some risks (like you did with Matthews in the draft) and land us some freaking super star talent. Over pay if you have to within REASON!

I already stated that I think the 13-3 season was an aberration.

I agree and just as I agree with that, I think the 6 - 10 was the same. I think in '07 we were about 10 win team and last year I'd say about 8 win team. BUT, you need luck, in '07 we got it good, '08 we got it bad, nothing fell our way for us.

All in all, good post yoop!
