Tauscher deal close from JSonline

There is interest from both the Green Bay Packers and Mark Tauscher in reaching a contract agreement, but the two sides still must hammer out a deal.

Tauscher worked out for the Packers Tuesday afternoon and from most accounts passed his physical test with flying colors. It was about 11 months ago that Tauscher suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his knee, and the Packers had set an Oct. 1 date to revisit the possibility of re-signing him.

Tauscher also worked out for Kansas City last week and his agent may be trying to use that as leverage to get him the best possible deal. But all things being equal, Tauscher would prefer to stay with the Packers, where he would probably regain his starting right tackle position in a short while.

Coach Mike McCarthy said he had made it known to right tackle Allen Barbre that re-signing Tauscher was a possibility, so it should not come as a shock to Barbre.

According to offensive line coach James Campen, who attended Tauscher's workout, everything went well.

"He looked fine," Campen said. "I visited with him for about 10 minutes. It's always nice to talk to Mike."

None of the coaches knew what management's intentions were with Tauscher and were unaware if anything was imminent. However, one league source said it was a matter of the two sides working out financial terms.

"It would give you a good football player to our 53-man roster," McCarthy said of the possibility of adding Tauscher. Mark's history here, he has played a ton of football for us. He just has the experience."

you guys saw that Mike McCarthy said barbre would still be the starter even if they acquired taucher ... and that he would have to compete for the starting position.

I See this more as a bandaid then a actually fix - I think many things need to be done. And IMO some things were done in this game.

Should he have to compete for the job.. hell yes.

Is it anything more than a bandaid for a year? Maybe... probably, but it is not uncommon to see offensive line play at a high level well into their mid 30's... '

Either way.. it helps now.. right when we need it. Currently we have no depth to speak of (unless you count Breno) and this is just what the doctor ordered.

(Are you going to bring Tauscher back?)
That's something that we're looking at. We actually had Mark in here today for a workout, and I know he's going through the medical aspect of it. It's something that Ted has been in contact with Mark, and October 1st is the date that Dr. McKenzie has always felt that his rehab would be completed. That's definitely something that we are visting.

(If it were to happen, what would he give you guys given the way the offensive line has functioned?)
Number one, a good football player. I think he definitely adds to our offensive line group and more importantly to our 53-man roster, just from a pure personnel standpoint. Obviously Mark's history here; he's played a ton of football for us in this scheme from day one. So just to have his experience and everything back in the room I think is definitely an asset.

(Were you part of the workout?)
I didn't go to the workout, but I saw Mark this morning.

(Can you tell us who did work him out?)
The medical staff and the coaches. It was a normal personnel workout. It was pretty standard.

(How'd they say he looked?)
He looked good.

(So was Oct. 1 accurate and he's ready to go?)
He looks good. That's what they told me. I said, 'Good.'

(Do you look at that as something imminent?)
I would think so, if it works out. You know how those things go. It would be great to have Mark back here. I have spoken to Allen Barbre about it. He knows he is coming in. This is something that has been planned.

(Would he come in and be your right tackle?)
He needs to come in and go through practice and so forth. At some point he'll have an opportunity to compete at right tackle, but Allen Barbre is still the starting right tackle.

(Was this kind of the plan all along, to look at him Oct. 1?)
That was always the date that Dr. McKenzie told me and Ted obviously. Just visiting with Mark this morning, he feels good. He had the workout there in Kansas City last week. I think it would definitely be an asset to have him back on our football team.

From those comments. It sounds like a sure thing that Mark is going to be signed. And will start IF he's better than Barbre.

Mark has not yet been signed, all he has done is a workout for us and not signed with us. So is he back, just for a workout for now. They guy is coming back from Major Knee surgery and just finished Rehab few days back. So let's see what happens after today's workout, and yes I do want to see him back as our tackle. Hopefully, Allen Barbe can watch and learn how to defend against fast linemen.

It'll be good seeing Tausch playing again! GAWD, with even a halfway decent line, we win last night's game hands down!

Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : Still HC positions available out there. I wonder if Hafley pops up for one
Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : Trent Baalke is out as the Jaguars GM.
dfosterf (22-Jan) : Jeff Hafley would have been a better choice, fortunately they don't know that. Someone will figure that out next off season
Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : Aaron Glenn Planning To Take Jets HC Job

Martha Careful (22-Jan) : you were blocked yesterday, due to a a recalcitrant demeanor yesterday in the penalty box for a recalcitrant demeanor
dfosterf (22-Jan) : Was that site shutdown on your end or mine? No big deal, just curious
beast (21-Jan) : That way teams like Indiana and SMU don't make the conference championships by simply avoiding all the other good teams in their own confere
beast (21-Jan) : Also, with these "Super Conferences" instead of a single conference champion, have 4 teams make a Conference playoffs.
beast (21-Jan) : Also in college football, is a bye week a good or bad thing?
Martha Careful (21-Jan) : The tournament format was fine. Seeding could use some work.
beast (21-Jan) : You can't assume Ohio State would of won the Michigan game...
beast (21-Jan) : Rankings were 1) Oregon 2) Georgia 3) Texas 4) Penn State 5) Notre Dame 6) Ohio State, none of the rest mattered
wpr (21-Jan) : Texas, ND and OSU would have been fighting for the final 2 slots.
wpr (21-Jan) : Oregon and Georgia were locks. Without the luxury of extra playoff berths, Ohios St would have been more focused on Michigan game.
wpr (21-Jan) : Zero, no. If there were only 4 teams Ohio State would have been one of them. Boise St and ASU would not have been selected.
Zero2Cool (21-Jan) : So that was 7 vs 8, that means in BCS they never would made it?
Martha Careful (21-Jan) : A great game. Give ND credit for coming back, although I am please with the outcome.
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : FG to make it academic
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : and there's the dagger
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : ooooo 8 point game with 4 minutes to go!
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : ooooooooohhhhhh he missed!
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Ooooo that completion makes things VERY interesting
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Game not over yet
beast (21-Jan) : Oh yeah, Georgia starting quarterback season ending elbow injury
beast (21-Jan) : Sadly something happened to Georgia... they should be playing in this game against Ohio State
beast (21-Jan) : I thought Ohio State and Texas were both better than Notre Dame & Penn State
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Notre Lame getting rolled
Martha Careful (21-Jan) : Ohio State just got punched in the gut. Lets see how they respond
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Notre Lame vs the Luckeyes, bleh
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Oh snap!!!
Zero2Cool (21-Jan) : Even Stevie Wonder can see that.
Zero2Cool (21-Jan) : Nah, you see Lions OC leaving to be HC of Bears is directly related to Packers.
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : ohhhhhhh Zero is in TROUBLE
