Never heard of an offer from MN? I am sure Tampa didn't offer anymore for Brett than the Jets.
And as it goes. Never, ever, ever trade a player with Brett's skill to a division opponent.

I don't have anything to support this, but I am almost 100% certain we could have gotten a conditional first from the Bucs for Favre. Both Gruden and the GM Bruce Allen were on a very short leash with the Glazers, the owners of the Bucs. They had an aging team with instability at the QB position. They had enough talent to make one final push. They were desperate and as you could tell from Monday night, Gruden really like Favre.
In the end, Ted Thompson made the right move at the right time. Hindsight being 20-20, we should have taken any first round pick we could have got. But the last thing this team needed was a loss to Tampa and a division in the locker room over whether we should have kept Brett. Trading Favre to the AFC gave Aaron an entire season to earn his teammates trust, which he has done with his great play.
A complex issue, but it pails in comparsion to Miami's decision to trade a 2nd round pick to Minn to get Daunte Culpepper and signing him to a big contract instead of just signing Drew Brees to a market deal and keeping their pick. Feel good we didn't do that!
