The 'G' won't be changed. That's my feeling on it.

The guy's argument that new york uses ny not N, san fran uses SF not S was very weak an damaging to his case, in my view.

I thought the GB looked cool, but cool as in something I'd see on a sign for a bar, not a football team. He tried doing too much with the logo. There's a little saying, KISS, keep it simple stupid.

This is a story that I heard from a Packers fan who lived in the Orlando, FL area in the early 90s and he was a Packeers fan because his Grandfather was from Green Bay and had retired from the GB chamber of commerce years ago. I guess he had been a acquaintance of Vince Lombardi.

The G on the helmet of the Packers was the brainchild of Vince Lombardi. He got the idea from visiting a meat packing company and the meat hook that was on the wire was his inspiration.

The meathook looks kind of like a letter G turned sideways...

Lombardi took it from there and the G was born

I don't want the logo or the uniforms to change. Most teams do it just to make a buck. We don't need to stoop the the level of the cowboys and soak their fanbase for every penny possible.

IF, the logo was to change. I would leave just the G, but add something to the colors. I actually liked the coloring and 3D effect in those logos, just drop the stupid GB combination.
The world needs ditch diggers too Danny!!!

I work in a meat factory and the hooks look like a J not a sideways G, at least, that's how I see them.

I heard and read on Packers.com the G came from the ... I believe equipment manager who drew it up.

He did, indeed.

What's the origin of the Packers' 'G' logo?

The Packers have utilized a few different 'official' logos over the years, but only one, the current trademark 'G' logo, ever made it to the helmet. The year was 1961, Vince Lombardi's third as head coach. The logo was designed by Packers equipment manager Dad Braisher.

Awful. Someone in Wisconsin find this man and slap him.

I think the G should stay...forever!

And speaking of stupid helmets...can anyone answer why the Steeler's logo is only on one side?! THAT is some stupid stuff right there. Maybe it's not stupid per se, but it sure does annoy the heck out of me.

If you do a little reading on the history of the Green Bay logo, you'll find it's not as old as some of you might think; it only dates back to 1961, and it's been changed several times since then. In 1964, the Packers licensed the University of Georgia (and some time after that, the University of Grambling) to create logos that looked very similar to the Packers'. Interestingly, the Packers logo has since been redesigned to look more similar to the UG logo than it did originally.

I'm not advocating radical changes to this instantly recognizable symbol, but I wouldn't go so far as to say it's sacrosanct either.

actually i think the three greatest helmets are the Packers, Browns and Steelers. i strongly disagree that *anything* should ever appear on the Browns helmet.

alsoplustoo: thinking about our helmet changing makes me want to punch things.

I agree with Twinkiegorilla.
