Saturday is usually the quietest day of the NFL news week. Game preparations are mostly done, and the league takes a quick breather before the insanity on Sundays.
That little preamble will serve as a warning that this post may have the most exciting breaking news of the day: The St. Paul Pioneer Press reports that Tarvaris Jackson will get the call Sunday as Brett Favre's primary backup over Sage Rosenfels.
The decision supports those around the Vikings that have said all along that Brad Childress has a soft spot for "his guy" and that T-Jack would have wound up the starter if Favre didn't decide to show up.
Childress says that the backup designation could change on a week-to-week basis, but you wonder if that is just a way to keep Jackson and Rosenfels mentally sharp and fighting a battle that was expected to carry more importance.
Of course, it will matter plenty if Favre isn't able to play 16 games for the first time in 17 seasons
