Green Bay Sunday night, prime time, opening weekend, Lambeau Field, the Chicago Bears - the big moment would be the perfect time to put the best foot forward and introduce Aaron Rodgers, Greg Jennings, Ryan Grant and the rest of the offense.
That's what Green Bay is known for under coach Mike McCarthy.
But McCarthy wants to take the opportunity, and the public spotlight, to change the team's identity. So with a meaningful gesture, he will take that first step by having the defensive starters introduced instead.
"Coach McCarthy said from day one that around the NFL we're known as an offensive team," said linebacker Desmond Bishop. "We don't really like that title. The defense wants to set the tone."
"Coach McCarthy said we (are not) an offensive football team - we are a defensive football team," said Packers receiver James Jones.
