Formo,

You're right, of course. The Twin Cities are a great area, and I see myself moving back there one day. You have the benefit of two good sized cities sitting side by side, four pro sports teams, a music scene, theater, the arts, etc. etc. Saying Vikings fans are the worst is a low blow that I apologize for. I have friends who are big Vikings fans who I would never call terrible fans, but I also had to deal with the people who are more of the band wagon types for about 22 years and I probably get a little reactionary because of that.

Anyway, I do hope that the NFC North in general keeps getting better. It would be nice to be considered one of the more competitive devisions in the NFL, though that would mean watching division games is more stressful than they already are! Sorry for the attack.

The folks in the Twin Cities who are actually die-hard Vikes fans aren't bad - and they are extremely loyal. I should know, I married one.

Problem is, as Formo pointed out, there aren't very many of them. Most "sports fans" in the TCs are casual at best and will only shell out and attend a game if the team is winning (and by that I mean they truly look like they're going to win a championship). Hence the bandwagon rep - which is deserved, except we shouldn't paint ALL Vikes fans with that brush.

Same thing happens to the Twins and T-Wolves - in good years they sell out and in bad years they're almost an afterthought.

The other part, which ends up being rather sad and self-fulfilling, is that damn dome. I can't fault anyone for not wanting to go there to see a game - that place is abysmal. Which, of course, is why Wilfy wants a new stadium - but getting people around here to shell out for something like that is next to impossible, so that doesn't happen.

Naw, it's ok. Trust me when I say I understand why and how you guys feel that way. We do have our share of bandwagoners.. And us 'real' fans are aware of this. We can't control said bandwagoners fandom.. only our own.

When our fan base as a whole is attacked, I always jump into defend mode. All that stereotyping does is encourage other fans to spit venom (most of which is false) instead of forcing them to stop and think about the situation at hand. That's all I did.

Truth. The Viking fans get labeled as the worst, yet it's the casual-interest-in-sports people that ultimately give them that label, while the Viking fans pay their dues.

Funny, short story. A while ago I was honored in being able to be the one chosen to take 2 of my younger cousins to a Timberwolves game, which would have been my first Timberwolves game as well (tickets were free). When I told some of my sports-fans coworkers about my excitement about going, one of them said, "Why would you want to go to see them?!"

The rest of the story doesn't matter.. It's that attitude that gives us real fans, like me, a bad rep. Which is anger-inducing, but just part of my fandom.

This is what I would do if I were the NFL and the Vikings were moved to LA.

Remove the LA Vikings from the NFC North and put them in the NFC West, and take the St. Louis Rams and move them to the NFC North.

Yes, it will shake up the rivalries and such.. But that's what happens when you take teams and move them.

I'm guessing realignment would not take place for at least a couple of years after the move.
