Philip Rivers gets his big contract
Posted by Gregg Rosenthal on August 24, 2009 6:31 PM ET
Just ten days after Eli Manning finally signed his contract extension, another quarterback from the class of 2004 just got a whole lot richer.

ESPN's Len Pasquarelli reports that the Chargers and Philip Rivers have agreed to terms on a six-year, $92 million contract, with $38-39 million guaranteed.

Can I say again how nice it was to get Rodgers signed when we did?

Aaron would have cost an extra 20 million or so if Ted had waited until this year to sign him. With Eli's, Phillip's, Ben's extensions and with Staffords rookie contract.

Because of that move, every contract for Rodgers from here on out, will be cheaper because it will be a year earlier than otherwise would have been by waiting.

Good move Ted.
The world needs ditch diggers too Danny!!!

Where's dd80? I recall he was rather against the Rodgers signing at the time. I wonder what his thoughts are now, if he still believes in that.

I disagree. Rivers and Eli have both had quite the supporting cast. Rivers has looked like he could carry the team, though, where Eli has been riding his RBs and WRs way more. That has resulted in some mediocre numbers for Eli and some great numbers for Rivers.

Just look at last year. The Chargers pretty much lose their running game when LDT starts playing pretty bad. Rivers steps up, has a 4000 yard season and gets the highest QB rating in the league. By far. I'm very curious as to how Manning would do without Jacobs. Or without his favorite target, Plaxico, this year.
