Three things about this game that they can build from.

1) It was a good start and a lot of good things happened out there.

2) Plenty of film to go over and learn from. I thnk Capers can't wait to get in the meetings to go over a lot of things in the learning process.

3) No dang injuries.

It's almost scary to think what can happen out there when Raji, Thompson, Mathews, Barnett, Woodson and Harris are playing.

When the only real negative I can come up with is we didn't punt enough to see if we have a guy that can do that job that means it's not a bad day.

I hope Rodgers stays healthy all season long. Neither Brohm nor Flynn should be on an NFL roster.

I don't know, Flynn has grown up and had a good camp and first preseason game. I certainly wouldn't feel comfortable with him at the helm, but he's getting there.

Brohm on the other hand....ugh.

was at the game.

Positives:

Big and Rich concert next to "the Bar" before game. nice.

Brat before heading to seats. Nice again.

Game:

Rodgers looked comfortable on and off the field. You can see his presence on the sideline is that of a leader. I liked it.

Sutton was really impressive. Really impressive. Haven't seen a guy hjit the holes that fast in awhile. Plus, more than anyone else, he really finished off the runs. Want to see more.

Grant was OK but seems to not shake off too many tackles.

Oline showed push all night long. Granted Saun Rodgers was not in the lineup for Cleveland but it was still nice.

D- was flying around. Good pressure, solid tackling.

Negatives:

Drunk lady in front of me from Canada. Kept telling me stupid story of her windshield frosting up in Milwaukee. (Duh, why is that new? She is from Manatoba for christs sake!)

End around showed little discipline in staying at home.

Cleveland made a few key completions over the middle on third down. Who's responsible for that? Was against 1st team D.

too long of a walk to the car and the traffic on 172 getting home. Too many drunks to avoid.

Overall:

Nice outing. good results regardless of opponent. Showed spirit and enthusiasm.

Let's put it this way.....

The only negative is that there was way to many penalties. That's it.

The Packers were dominating. They haven't looked this good ever at this time under McCarthy. The team is more physical, intense, and Rich Gannon pointed out they're well conditioned.

It would usually take them until the end of August to look like this.

Now it's just preseason so this means nothing. Both teams were lucky to run a third of their playbook. Green Bay's offense probably less than that, but no doubt the Packers are well ahead of the Cleveland Browns at this point.

Cleveland has several months to catch up and they could.

Couple of notes I want to say.....

1. Desmond Bishop is playing his way on the field. He should definitely start to see some PT with the No. 1s in certain packages. He's a better blitzer than A.J. Hawk.

2. Brady Poppinga still overpursues. He did it on two plays that I saw.

3. The offensive line battle is a tough one to call. Sitton made mental mistakes, but played very good overall. Wells and Spitz did too. The tackles played great. Barbre looked solid at RT and I've been reading a lot of negative things on him. It's anyone's guess.

If there was a loser in the offensive line battle it would be Mark Tauscher.

4. The corner depth looks strong. They covered the Browns 1s and 2s very well.

5. I noticed on Brady Quinn's first throw, he went right at Aaron Kampman. I expect to see a lot of that this year.

I actually just watched some of the game (1st quarter, thanks to NFL Network). I went home on my lunch and watched the dvr.

Couple things I caught in the 1st quarter only.
Positive
1. It seemed like a majority of the time our d-line was penetrating and causing pressure situations. That is good to see with only 3 men lined up. I saw a lot of Kampman in the backfield as well which is awesome.
2. O-line had a good outing. Rodgers had great time to throw the ball and running backs had room to run.
3. Rodgers looked comfortable when in the pocket and with the Driver td had amazing pocket presence.

Negatives
1. Quinn completed a lot of 3rd down passes. This got annoying after about the 3rd one. The Browns moved the ball downfield. Plus to this was defense stepped up near the redzone.
2. Hawk still seems hesitant (if thats the word I am looking for). Didn't see him do much of anything.
3. Everyone and their mothers bit on the reverse with Cribbs. Mistake that will be capitalized on if it weren't the Browns.

Will watch rest of the game tonight!

I'm really intent on watching the FBs and TEs in the run game. I still don't believe we have an A gap type of running game and don't know if I should be expecting that ever, so looking to see those seal blocks and kick outs.
I was happy to see Finley get good help on the tackles and sealing off the end, but he needs to peel off to the next level quicker I think.
And Korey Hall had the block of the game. The announcers were all talking about Grant beating the one guy to the corner, but there wouldn't have been a corner if Hall didn't blow his guy up.
Also very excited that 4 RBs had a rush of 10+ yards.

"Easily" the weakest division in the NFL? You would seriously argue that the NFC North is weaker than the NFC West?

My take:

- Our Oline looks much improved.

- Sutton got a heck of alot of carries and I think Mike McCarthy likes what he sees; I think he will use sutton a bit more these next 3 games and if he looks good he will keep him as one of our players (good for him - I was impressed also by his speed and quickness to find the holes).

- Rodgers played well; read the coverage and the line.

- Flynn did ... alright. Decent for a 2nd stringer. Brohm on the other hand did better at handing the ball off to lumpkin or sutton then throwing the ball. I think he did have a nice pass to nelson that was called back thou.

- Like I said a few months ago. The best person we picked up this offseason was Capers. And this was clearly shown in how our D performed and the number of blitzing, pressures, sacks, INT.

- Bishop gets my nod for MVP Dman. Glad he stepped up because I dont know how barnett's knee is and hawk has been inconsistant.
Bishop had 1 int and a sack and was in on a few blitzes.

- Finley got some passes and wasnt so raw. Last year he could barely catch the ball.

- Jones (my man) did well ... IMO we have 3 great receivers on our team. Makes it a nightmare to cover if they put all 3 in.

- Driver shows his stuff at the start by pulling away and grabbing a 50+ yard TD.

Overall impressions

Nice improved Oline (meaning no matter what package they had in they blocked well - penalties were an issue again thou).

Our new D under Dom ... this is going to be exciting to see this year. OLB blitzes, ILB blitzes, Safety Blitzes, Corner back Blitzes ...

Nice RB options

It's all about getting from point a to point b.

You can see a clear improvement from the Packers. They seem far ahead of the curb than they were just one year ago today. It's encouraging and that's what preseason is meant to do, but encouraging is something good in August and not December. That much I agree with you.

NFC North is far from the weakest division in football though. NFC West and AFC West probably fight over that title. Outside of New England, AFC East isn't that great either.

The NFC North is about the middle of the pack with three teams who all have the capabilities of winning ten games this year. Green Bay was in the NFC Title game just in 07. Chicago in the Super Bowl the year before that and everyone likes the Vikings talent.

Has this been mentioned yet?

I was impressed with the level and complexity of the pre-snap motion on defense. People didn't just fake blitz, they fake blitzed in coordination. One guy would move to blitz, and two others would shift to cover the hole he'd leave. Then they would all return to their original spots and the blitz would come from somewhere else. It was, as one player put it, "electric".
