The Perseids Meteor Shower will peak this year in the morning of August 12 where meteors can be seen anywhere in the sky.

To locate the showers radiant, one must look to the east/northeast in the hours after midnight.

This shower is usually very active but this year a waning gibbous moon with 62% of the Moons visible disk illuminated probably will cause light interference and decrease the amount of visible meteors.

The key to viewing any meteor shower is to find a safe, dark place away from man-made lights and lean back in a relaxing position looking toward the darkest part of the sky.

Activity will be more abundant this year. Too bad about the moon.

I read that about 03:00 HRS until just before sunrise is the best time, however that was in a paper in Western Canada so it might be different the farther East one goes.

This is always remarkable if you get out of the city. When I was young we use to drive out of the city and sleep in the back of the pick up falling asleep watching this event.

Living in basically downtown Minneapolis, I'd have to drive out pretty far to catch this event.. Which is too bad.

But I remember many many years ago, there was a huge meteor shower event going on, and since I lived in Superior, it didn't take long to find an old dirt road away from the Twin Ports to see it's glory. I don't remember which shower it was, but it was still pretty amazing.
