Now that it seems like a lock that we'll soon be seeing Favre in purple, I wanted to respond to a quote of Favre's from Joe Buck Live. The quote was this:

"There are those people who are in your corner no matter what. You can't do any wrong, even when you do wrong. And then there's those people that, no matter what you do, they're going to dislike you, and that's not going to change. And then theres the rest that dont give a (expletive)."

To me, he's leaving out a huge group of people. Namely, the majority of Packer fans. Favre covered three groups of people: Brett Favre fans, Brett Favre haters, and people that are apathetic towards Brett Favre.

Once again, to Favre, it's all about himself. Favre doesn't care if you like the team he's playing for; only if you like him.

Brett Favre loves to feel loved, and if you care about him, he'll care about you. Ron Wolf traded for Favre, and that regime cared about him. The new regime, however, didn't love him enough to welcome him back after he retired.

As a result, Brett Favre doesn't care about this regime, and thus doesn't care about the current Packers. Brett Favre cared about the people that ran the Packers, not the Packers itself. Because of all of this, it'll be easy for Favre to throw on a Vikings jersey. He won't be hurting Brett Favre fans, and he won't be directly hurting the old regime. Instead, he'll only be hurting the current Packers, and the Packer fans who always valued the team more than any single player. And obviously Favre doesn't care if he's hurting those kinds of people.

When Brett finally does retire, he won't by living by Packer fans. He'll live in Mississippi, surrounded by Brett Favre fans. I doubt he'll make many trips to Green Bay, and I doubt a lot of people in Green Bay will want him to after this season.

Thanks for reading. Have a fun day.

So apparently Brett Favre had surgery a couple of weeks ago on his injured right shoulder. Ed Werder and Chris Mortensen reported that, and now they're reporting that Vikings head coach Brad Childress has given Favre a deadline of this week to decide whether or not he's coming out of retirement. And lastly, this is reportedly not a slam dunk, because Favre has not been convinced that his shoulder will heal upon throwing some footballs post-surgery.

First of all, why would Favre be able to throw pain-free already? Basically everyone agrees that the rehab from this surgery takes anywhere from 3 to 6 weeks. Werder says the surgery happened about two weeks ago, so for Favre to still be in pain is simply the status quo. I'm sure Favre will recover just fine from the surgery, and I'm sure the surgery was successful, considering that one of the best doctors in the world performed it.

Another thing I heard Werder say today was that he wouldn't be surprised if Favre turned down the opportunity to be the Vikings quarterback if he felt rushed by Childress' deadline. I understand that Favre retired the last time he felt rushed into a decision, but this is totally different. Favre made a mental commitment to playing the moment he signed off on surgery. And back to my first point, there is no reason at this time for him to believe that he won't recover fully from the procedure. So basically what I'm saying is that there is no reason a rational person would turn down the opportunity at this point. Favre didn't need the surgery to do yard work.

Of course, the wild card is all of this is that I'm not so sure Brett Favre is a rational person. More thoughts on the impact of this if/when it actually happens.
