I agree, it seems like Cheeseheads123 is posting what I would if I wasn't so damn lazy.

So many variables like holding on to the ball a little too long, quarterback pressing, pass protection break down, missed blocking assignment, being tired, defense dropping every body back knowing we will pass, musical chair o-line.

Totally true.

Here look at this one:

In the 6 wins he was sacked 7 times and in the 10 losses he was sacked 27 times.

Does the o-line just break down against better defenses?

Great stat!

I think this is very telling but how I approach this is going to be misconstrued by some. This isn't about Brett but his name will be mentioned.

A-Rod played it safe alot more than the guy he followed. Part of being a play-it-safe kind of QB is just taking the sack instead of forcing the ball. When we are trailing generally we will be passing a bit more which allows the defense the liberty to better protect against the pass. A-Rod couldn't make the reads fast enough at the snap and then was put in a desperation scenario and ate the ball to play it safe. Brett could read the defense alot better and make quicker decisions at the snap. When that door shut however he forced the ball which resulted in some of those ugly INT's or some amazing throws.

I'm not saying one is better than the other, just 2 different styles, and I'm sure Rodgers will get quicker with his decisions in time.

Anyways, thats some great info you dug up. +1 to you

That's an interesting point which has merit. I would also like to point out that Rodgers does have more elusiveness around and outside of the pocket. Some of the sacks were because Rodgers, having found no open receivers, gets caught trying to run around (I remember one such play when he's shuffling left and right near the goal line and slips luckily just as a defensive player flies over his head), and some of the potential sacks were avoided by Rodgers taking upfield.

ya I agree - I cant remember how Bretts Oline was the previous few years. Rodgers had a struggeling Oline last year - Personally I didnt mind the fact that he didnt throw wildly and hoped for a reception. Ya better stats but also it's quite demoralizing to the team when a turnover happens.

When you're behind it gives the defense the upper hand because they know they can rush more and attack the QB.

Not only that but they can better scheme to cover the WR's.

The sacks to me are the scariest statistic there, one thing i really hope Rodgers improves upon in 09 is getting the ball out quicker, toooo many times i was left screaming at the tv because he just seemed to hold onto the ball for too long. Of course the Oline wasn't doing him many favors, but he needs to be aware and get rid of the ball.

While being behind Rodgers threw 258 passes, with 2058 yards, 62% comp, 14 TDs, 10 INTs, sacked 21 times, and a 89 qb rating.

While being ahead Rodgers threw 150 passes, 1132 yards, 67% comp, 8 TDs, 2 INTs, sacked 5 times, 102 qb rating.

While being tied Rodgers threw 128, 848 yards, 62.5% comp, 6 TDS, 1 INTs, sacked 8 times, 94 qb rating.

Here is what stands out to me:

158 more passes thrown while being behind then ahead.

Here is what stands out MOST to me:

sacked 21 times while being behind
sacked 5 times while being ahead

Does the o line just give up when they are behind?

It does not stand out that much at all.

Teams throw more when they are behind and when things are going well teams are ahead.

When you have the lead, you can put one extra man in coverage. And be more creative with blitzes.

Makes all the difference in the world.

It all comes down to one thing - we need to start taking leads early and maintaining them. Coming from behind sucks for everyone, I don't care if your name is Joe Montana or Aaron Rodgers.

You know what's pretty funny. That's exactly what a lot of DC's do.

However, if you look at teams that blitz more often and not only on passing downs, they're usually the great ones. These are just the defenses I know that blitz a lot. Giants, Ravens, Steelers, Eagles.

I really hope that we will be blitzing a lot. Our secondary is good enough to cover the WRs while a lot of our LBs are blitzing. I'm hoping we'll see nearly 'Grits' blitz'-like situations from time to time. Or at least Ravens like. I love me some Ravens defense.
