It's not calling someone out when you respond to a question posed to you by someone else.

This is what Homer says:
"If I'm Aaron Kampman, I say guys, I'm glad you're going to the 3-4 but you gotta pay me, you say you believe in me then pay me cuz if we were still in the 4-3 then you'd pay me. Don't tell me that you believe I can make the change, show me that you believe I can make the change by extending my contract. Is that a reasonable position to have as a player?"

Kampman, isn't holding out, or whining, or saying anything at all.

Rodgers was responding to a hypothetical posed to him by a talk radio host, not calling him out, not bringing it up on his own.

9 pages of discussion over a silly hypothetical question and counting.

I also wonder how some of you come to the conclusion that he's "pissed" or "arrogant" from a 5 minute soundbite on a dumb ass jock sports talk show. He's a 24 year old football player, not an ambassodor or politician. What do you expect from these people? Did every one of you express yourself perfectly when you were 24?

I think the banner under DD80's username says it all, Pro Favre.

I have called it before and i will stay with it that his ego is all about him. Another Big Ben let's just hope he can somehow turn into a winning qb as Ben. (yes i can't stand him either like alot of Steeler fans)

So...

Once one wins a game from behind or has a winning season then all bets are off?

Win a game from behind boys... You can dress in your own private area, you can actually not ever speak a word to a team mate who has been a border like player, and special team contributor for the whole season, or two?

Win a game from behind and you do not need to go to QB school... You can learn all the new terminology from your under-study when you get to camp. (Like the kid does not have enough other things to learn besides spending time teaching freaking GOD what he should have learned if he took the time to be there?)

That is the NFL Baby... Win a game from behind. Have a winning record!

Screw team building, and giving back to the organization that stood behind you, taught you, paid you, and supported you when you were that under study's age.

This can piss me off.

I am done with this thread.

RP i know how you defend Rodgers with everything you have which is fine, but some of the things you said didn't make sense to me. I know this is the wrong section to this but with all the bad things Brett has done he has done alot of good for the Packers. He restructured his contract a few times so they could sign players, he played after his dad died. I could go on and on but i won't. You say he don't talk to players well big deal where does it say you have to be friends with everyone on the team? Sitting by himself is next what's so wrong with that? The guys on the team are alot younger than him ever think he just likes having his time and maybe not have all the rap music playing? Like if we were in a bar and i was smoking wouldn't you want to be away from me? I'm really not trying to defend Lord Favre but just trying to say after awhile you earn some things.

To me with Rodgers it's becoming a reoccurring theme with him and he comes across as a little rich dick. But if he wins oh well it will all be good. Like you kept saying have a winning season and things can be forgotten.

Btw i am known as a Rodgers hater even when i cheer for him in chat lol, it's funny how things work when you criticize a certain loved player.

I really don't care what people want to make me out to be because i know how i feel and thats all that counts. I say i will admit Rodgers is a great qb when he helps us have a few winning seasons in row, but you think he was great once he got to the Packers which is fine. If it wasn't for us having our different opinions these boards would be awful boring.

Ego? Since when can you spot an ego? If a certain former QB of our team had a giant 4 tattooed on his ass in braille and landed on your forehead while giving a speech about himself you'd get up from the incident and blame Ted for mouthing off, then probably sue Aaron for causing the imprint.

Smart ass Dave. You can have an ego when you have done great things and proven yourself. I used to love Jordans Ego. But he could back it up for the most part and he earned it.

I have an ego as a Ted Thompson basher and i think i have earned it so screw you lol 😛

Purely for everyone's edification:

Ego is simply an Anglicization (chosen by the original translator of Freud's works) of the Latin word eg, which means nothing more or less than "I." Freud's own term for it was actually das ich, which is German for "the I."

In other words, of course Aaron Rodgers and Ted Thompson have egos. If they didn't, they wouldn't exist. 😛

All right. I finally listened to the interview (couldn't listen to it at school), and let me just say, I have no idea what any of you guys are talking about. For one thing, Aaron Rodgers was unstinting in his praise of the new defense.

Q: How's the 3-4?

"Good. Very good."

Q: So you trust the defense?

"That's good. I like what we're doing. When they figure out all the little nuances in the defense, they're going to be so good. 'Cause already they're moving around a ton, the secondary -- it's tough to figure out where they're coming from. When you got Kampman and Poppinga and Clay Matthews and [garbled], they're going to be -- they're going to be tough."

"Nonstopdrivel" wrote:

As for the hypothetical question about asking for more pay, everyone involved makes it obvious that they're discussing a hypothetical question, and Rodgers' answer makes it obvious he isn't lecturing Kampman or anyone else for that matter -- his analysis of the hypothetical situation would apply equally to any player, including himself. Again, this is abundantly obvious from the context.

And as for the comments you guys have interpreted as criticism of Kampman ("The worst thing he did . . ."), he intends them to actually be what one might call "Praise by faint damning." Sort of the opposite of "Damning by faint praise."

"The worst thing that he did -- and he's a buddy of mine -- the worst thing he did was not talk the first week. Why would you not talk the first week? Then you're asking ten other people the question that they want to ask you! Why would you not talk the first week? It was the worst thing he could have done. Just heaped all this extra pressure on him. Then he had to talk this week."

The worst thing he did was, um, not talking right away? Hardly a stinging rebuke. In fact, this isn't a criticism of Kampman at all -- it's really a criticism (by implication) of the media itself! He's pretty blatantly blaming the media for blowing the whole situation out of proportion. The worst criticism he levels at Kampman is basically a good-natured, "Hey, buddy, you made it harder on yourself than you had to -- fucking media whores." Again, this is obvious from the context and Rodgers' tone.

Oh, and by the way, the hosts of the show agree with him -- you hear them saying "Yep" in the background.

Finally, for the other bone of contention, his saying that Kampman "doesn't understand," I understand the point if you take him too literally. But judging again by the cadence of his words, it sounds to me like he's speaking in the subjunctive -- that is, in a hypothetical sense.

What he said:

"Him being disappointed by the 4-3 -- or the 3-4 -- switch, he obviously doesn't understand how it would help him out."

I read this as "If he really were disappointed by the 3-4, that would mean he didn't understand how it would help him out." Remember, they've been speaking hypothetically this entire conversation -- the host has just got done speculating as to why he might not have wanted to talk to the media.

After all, he goes on to say:

"So why would you not be excited about a defensive switch where you're going to have opportunity, with us bringing more guys, to have more one-on-one matchups?"

I can see how on its face, again taking things too literally, this might be interpreted as a criticism of Kampman, but remember, they're speaking hypothetically. Judging by his tone, this strikes me as a purely rhetorical question. I think what he's really trying to say is "Of course Kampman is excited about a switch to a defense in which he's going to get more sacks!"

One last comment on tone. I agree with everyone who thinks Rodgers tone is meant to be humorous. I got the impression from the first few seconds of this clip that this is a show with a distinctly sarcastic vibe, and Rodgers was just vibing with them. The hosts were laughing the entire time, so obviously he was fitting in with their usual shtick.

Did he come across as a bit snotty? Of course. He was supposed to. He sounded to me like he was grinning most of the time.

Now let's all relax and get along. :P

Agree 100% with that entire post. +1

And as far as the "pissy attitude" I've been hearing so much about, it just sounds to me like three guys talking in a VERY casual setting. Let's see if this sounds familiar to anyone out there...

guy #1 - "hey man, can you hand me that wrench?"
guy #2 - "that's what your Mom said to me last night!"

Probably a horrible analogy, and I apologize, I'm just saying that it sounded VERY casual.

Now I'm not saying they're the greatest of friends, but it does sound to me that they are very comfortable in that setting. When two minutes of a six minute interview are used up with talk of a misunderstood joke to some chick at the Espys, I'm guessing they're not exactly trying to win a Pulitzer prize for radio interviews.

Just my opinion of course, and this horse is pretty much kicked to death, so I'll shut up and lurk some more. Thank you.

This is not worth it in the least but I'll take the time to transcribe Aaron's response because you obviously cannot hear according to your representation of his quote in your (extremely) well thought out post:

AR
"No it is not, That is the dumbest thing he could say"

Homer:
"Because?"

AR:
"Let me Just Say this... I don't do everything the right way, everytime..."

Homer:
"But that would be in private"

AR:
"Oh yeah OK, if it was in private? Well that's different."

Homer:
"Ok, you would never say it publicly."

AR:
"No, the worst thing he did, and he's a buddy of mine....."

and he goes on to explain his position on not answering questions.

Absolutely nowhere in his statement does he say "NO it would be the dumbest thing" then a silence and then he throws in a quick and quiet if its in private ok."

Total misrepresentation of the facts, slanted to make him look like a tool and done with an anti-Rodgers bias based solely on one thing. And everybody who's read a single one of your posts knows what that one thing is, but this is an Aaron Rodgers thread.

And I don't recall the fact that this is a contract year and Kampman's pissed that he's not getting paid to have been an issue other than press speculation, He's at OTA's and doing his job.

I agree with Aaron that saying publicly "Show me the money!" would be the dumbest thing to do. In private your business is your business. And then starts to lose his control and starts to be a douche mocking them like that and laying down the condescending football knowledge. Though I guess I feel better informed after he discussed what he believes to be the Defense's tendencies going forward.

I give 1/5 stars for this interview. Both sides were lame. I can't say I have ever listened to the hosts of that interview before, but they got on my nerves just with their babble. It almost makes me feel lucky that I have to listen to Ivan "John" Jurkovic on the radio every day during the commute home.
And on the flip side, I believe Aaron lost his cool there with those turkeys.
The 1 star for Aaron dropping a little knowledge.
