People are comfortable with who we have at OLB? People are comfortable with who we have on the defensive line? I suppose I won't be disappointed if we take a good OT -- it's definitely a position of need. I just think the shift to 3-4 means you have to make some changes. If we took Maybin/Brown with the ninth pick, I wouldn't be upset.

Ultimately I think, as is usually the case, Ted Thompson goes on best value. If that's someone like Raji, that's where we go. If Maybin is higher on their board than someone like Oher, then we go Maybin.
William Henderson didn't have to run people over. His preferred method was levitation.

I have not forgotten about the problems at OLB or the D-line. If Raji is there, I would be very happy with him aswell. Getting a NT is very hard and I asume that more and more teams will be switching to a 3-4. There'll be a horrible shortage in a year or two if this goes on.

The OLB spot isn't that great either, but we do have Jeremy Thompson who was a really raw talent as a rookie and should be coming along this year. Also, I think Poppinga can do alot more than he has shown so far. He might be a sleeper at OLB in Capers' scheme.

OT is a very safe pick though and also a position of need. Andre Smith would be of crazy value if he would drop to 9. Oher just seems like too much of a reach at 9. We'd have to trade down a couple of picks and maybe pick up a 2nd rounder aswell, if we'll go that way.

I don't think its so much that people are comfortable with our OLB and DE as it is we just don't know what we already have there until we see them play in the new scheme. We don't know for sure who will be successful.

What if we draft a DE but it turns out Harrell/Jenkins are getting the job done? Then we spent out #9 on the backup. We do know that we need an OT though which makes it a much safer pick.

Why is OT a safe pick? The last 2 we drafted as #1 didn't work out very well and Oakland's #1 overall(the kid from Iowa) last I heard is a bust. Not saying we shouldn't draft that way but I'm just curious to the comment.

safer pick. It is a safer pick because we know for sure that we NEED an OT. You can point to a bust at any position taken in the first round by any team in the NFL but you can't use that as a reason to not draft somebody. The last O lineman we drafted in the first was in 1997 and #30 overall - not really a great comparison. The point is until we see our defensive players actually on the field it is hard to tell how much we need an OLB or DE.

I hear you, but depth along the defensive line killed us last year.

Best player available, as far as I'm concerned. Smith does worry me, though. I mean, to this point it's just been one red flag after another. And Oher seems like a reach. That's why I think we'll go the defensive route.

I guess I never mentioned that I would take Oher at 9 also. Still want to trade back for an additional pick, having to do with Raji, Brace, and the NT world as we know it. If Raji is there at 9, I say we have to take him, but I am not happy about it. He should be about the 50th pick in this draft, and Brace should be about 100th or even later.

I am going to be quite disgusted when we reach for Brace in the 2nd round, and predict that we do precisely that.

I would like to add that I firmly believe it is easier to find a one dimensional pass rusher later in the draft than solid anchors on the offensive or defensive line.

Too much risk involved with the tweener types.. not at those top 10 salaries..

I need your best OLB for my 3a pick.

1 Oher
2 Brace (Oh, this irritates me)
3a ?
3b Chris Baker DE/NT Baker (Yes, I HAVE thought about it, I'm in a froth)

Being I think we will take English in the second... I will rattle off guys that may be there in the 3rd..

Clint Sintim, DE/OLB Virginia
Paul Kruger DE/OLB Utah
Tryone McKenzie OLB South Florida

And my favorite mid round pick..

Cody Brown DE/OLB Uconn.

Those are a few that I think are graded around a third round value.. Brace.. I think Brace will be gone by our second pick.. personally I think he will be the overall better longterm Pro Player between him and Raji..
