Consider it done, times two.

What would the Ted haters say if we got Julius Peppers?

I was actually contemplating this today. Considering he's still on the market, his value is shrinking. I have to wonder if Thompson might not swing for a double or triple in the next few weeks.

Cutler is on the Bears, I'm not worried.

If Cutler was on the Vikings... that's another story.

There are reports about the Panthers trying to keep him though. If that's the case, I guess his price won't go down at all. Give them some high picks, or he'll just stay in Carolina.

That said, I wouldn't mind him either, anymore. I was really hestitant, but if we could get him for two 3rd or so, I would take it. I still wouldn't like for us to give up a 1st round pick, but still, he does the athleticism you look for in an OLB and pretty much the perfect body type, it seems. Capers could work with this guy, I think.

after injuries to Barnett, Jenkins, and Bigby, the defense was completely ineffective.

The Packers could not generate a pass rush from the defensive line after Jenkins was injured, running backs and TE run free over the middle of the field, but changing to the 3-4 is the answer?????

sorry, but i am not sure what we have done to improve the team from last season but am hopeful a current player on the roster can have an breakout year.

"dd80forever" wrote:

I'm hopeful as well, but dreadfully feel hopeless. I don't think if our best players stay healthy and we get the breaks that this team is anything more than hovering around .500.

I like Current players. Love Donald Driver, Jennings was a great pick, etc but I just do not see the talent on this team. It turned out just like it truly was last year. Young undeveloped players, brought in on the cheap, losing games on clutch plays week in and week out.

So I don't choose to go around and say "if this happened" or if that didn't happen" blah blah blah, we'd have been decent. Hell, the Lions fans could say that as could any other team in the league.

If we were that darn good it wouldn't have came down to one play or one holding call. Good teams make plays in the clutch or overcome thier mistakes. Thats sports on any level.

It's scary how some as fans buy into the "building for the future" line of crap. Teams do build for the future but that can go on forever. We are far enough along in the Ted campaign that a 6-10 year should have fans angry. I know it was A-Rods first year as a starter but Ted should have better prepared us for the year.

I keep hearing how great A-Rod played, so if he wasn't the problem, don't use that for an excuse. We had injuries, but nothing drastic. All teams have injuries. Doesn't that say something about the depth of this team?

Somewhere in all the spin you guys like to use is the reason we were 6-10. I hear A-Rod played good, so 1st year starting QB must not be it. I hear Ted is good at evaluating, yet his backups couldn't step in and win games. I hear Ted re-signed guys, yet those guys coupled with Ted's talent around them were 6-10.

There is a problem somewhere. Blind optimism just doesn't cut it for me sorry.

Once barnett got injured we only won 2 games.

As far as switching to the 3-4; ya theoretically it should boost our D rating. Our run stoppage was pretty atrocious last season and having 5 guys up front to stop the run will help.
Then throw in the skill of dom capers and we should be doing much better then last season with the front 7.

And ya the 3-4 we should be able to generate a pass rush much more effectively then last season. We hardly ever rushed the passer last season and if we did the O usually picked it up.

*remember 50% of the plays will still be the typical 4-3 D style plays*

The biggest red flag I see with Julius Peppers (besides the issue of compensation, obviously) is that there is no evidence his own former line coach Mike Trgovac has expressed any interest in acquiring him. If his own coach doesn't want him, why should Ted Thompson or Mike McCarthy, much less we as fans?

Hype is not a reason to make a move.

+1.

I'm more scared of Devon Hester returning KOs than catching passes. You still have to run routes. Hester's bad at that, and just not "getting it."

Look at perhaps the greatest NFL player in our lifetime - Jerry Rice. Did he have Hester's speed? No. But he ran perfect routes. If Montana was throwing to Hester, his INT total would be significantly higher. And Cutler is no Joe Montana.
