Yes the cop was an A-hole for sure and i would hate to run into him, also i believe the apology wasn't real (forced one to try and make things easy for him) after all it was reported that he believed he did nothing wrong. As far as what to do it's hard to say i hope i never have that situation. First you hope if you pull over you get a good cop and they would probably give you an escort, but if you end up like a dick you could get this treatment.

To be honest i don't think he should get his job back, not with this evidence hell he was laughing at the end and talking about his one and only chase then discussed going to get something to eat.

The police are here to protect and to serve. ( that doesn't always work i used to see the cops back home when i would be walking and stop them and ask them if they could give me a ride home, but first stop and get me something to eat and some beer lol. It never worked but i did get the ride lol.
Just Imagine this for the next 6-9 years. What a ride it will be 🙂 (PS, Zero should charge for this)

I wouldn't stop, nothing would be able to stop me. When my mother passed away last year that is one thing that hurt me the most. I was not able to be there at her side. Everyone says they want just a few more minutes and then that turns into hours, days, etc. I just wanted to be there for her, to let her know that I cared and loved her. I knew she was going to a better place so to speak. One where she's not in pain, so I was 'ok' with that. I just wanted to say good bye. I was not given that luxury and ... there is no way I would have stopped. There's no way I would have even gave that cop the time of day if I was that close.

I would have obeyed traffic laws with the exception of speeding. I was driving on 172 just coming off of 41 when I was informed of my mothers passing. I didn't know if I should pull over or jump on to 57 and head up north to be by her, hoping it was a false alarm and maybe I'd see her one last time. It was hard to focus and not just floor it and drive up there, but my grandma kept telling me there is nothing I could do, she's gone.

This story really hits me hard. When I think of this I can't stop thinking about the nurse telling the cop that his mother in law was dying and the cop responding with something like 'ill let him go when im finished here'. I'd give damn near anything to be able to tell my mother good bye and that I love her and for that cop to rob him of that same thing with his mother in law... I just don't know how to explain the anger.

Moats broke the law, he should be held accountable, no question. A standard has to be kept otherwise everyone will start saying they sped cuz so an so was passing away. I understand that. What I don't understand is would it have been so difficult for the cop to follow them inside and stand outside the room for a bit? Or to take the keys of the vehicle an to have him contacted when they are to leave or something, anything other than making him wait outside as his mother in law is passing.

When I was watching the video, I couldn't stop thinking, just let them all go in and just follow them and give him his damn ticket then. Or just wait.

Another thing that really irks me, is the cop tells him that he should just show up to court and tell him his situation and he's sure it'll just be wiped off. So basically making him wait was going to result in absolutely nothing at all. So whats the difference between giving him a ticket and just being understanding and letting him go inside and be there?

I get this world has assholes. I just don't get how anyone can do something like that and sleep at night. I just do not understand.

"I wish to publicly and sincerely apologize to the Moats family, my colleagues in the Dallas Police Department and to all those who have been rightfully angered by my actions," Powell said in the statement. "After stopping Mr. Moats' vehicle, I showed poor judgment and insensitivity to Mr. Moats and his family by my words and actions."

Carefully scripted by a lawyer. All these apologies sound exactly the same. I don't trust an apology that the person doesn't make off the cuff.

Regardless of whether or not the guy's repentant (he may very well be contrite) , the fact remains he's trying to save his career. He'd do better to skip the PR coach and just say what's on his heart.

He doesn't deserve to be a cop anymore. What he did was unacceptable.
If a person has no compassion, they shouldn't be a police officer. There are circumstances where you have to make judgement calls as a cop. If his judgement is THAT bad over something like this, how can he be trusted in any other situation?
I agree with Zero, and know how he feels.
It's not like Moats caused an accident or anything.
The cop should never be given a badge and gun ever again.
Thats my opinion.

Robert Powell, the police officer who detained Texans running back Ryan Moats last week, also arrested the wife of former Cowboys linebacker Zach Thomas last year, according to the Dallas Morning News.

Maritza Thomas was issued five tickets, four of which were later dismissed, after she was stopped for making an illegal U-turn last July. Thomas was handcuffed, placed in the back of a police cruiser, spent about three hours in the Dallas County Jail and was threatened with the possibility of spending the night behind bars. The charges that were dropped were failure to show proof of insurance, running a red light, having an improper address on a drivers license and not having a registration sticker on the windshield.

Thomas was traveling with her mother, Teresa Lozano, who speaks little English and offered to go home to retrieve the proper paper work for the latter charges. At that point, Powell unbuckled his holster. Lozano later shared a ride with the tow truck operator and posted bail for Thomas.

This in no way compares to what happened to Ryan Moats and his family, said Zach Thomas. But we wanted to tell our story, not knowing how many others have been affected by Officer Powell. We know the vast majority of the Dallas police force are good and professional people, but this guy just seems excessive.

Not as bad as the Moats stuff, but still, it adds to it. I can't imagine this guy working for the police force anymore.

It shows a pattern with this cop. And these are just the more "famous" people that have stepped forward. I wonder how many other people this power hungry SOB has hasseled.
