My Gosh Cheesey....Wilson Park???!! I used to go there all the time in my younger years. I saw the Admirals out at the Fairgrounds in the old ice rink out there. We'd collect pucks and run away with them...must have a hundred of them somewhere in all my junk.

Formo...I like hockey, even though I was a speed skater in my younger days. I spent many hours flat on my face or backside in St. Paul on Como Lake at the Nationals. We used to play hockey with our 18 inch blades on, but it was difficult at best. The blades on speed skates are off center, to the left, and cutting to the right is next to impossible. We could really get a head of steam up towards the goalie, but if we got pushed to the left we were in deep trouble. Stopping was not an easy thing to do unless you wanted to spend the next day sharpening the blades on your skates, which at that time,(late 50's and early 60's) cost $300+ a pair. Still, we scared the crap out of many goalies just with our speed. Our accuracy on goal left much to be desired..

Formo, I understand the hockey way up north is much better. Junior hockey is ok...not great. But the high school teams are not really organized. Down here, the teams are made up of a few different schools. The refereeing is poorly organized too.

I have played and officiated at Wilson park. Still there.

Love live hockey. but I have to say you need to be as close to the ice as possible. cheesey, We should go to an Admiral game sometime and sit behind the goaltender. To me, that is the best place to sit as you can see the lanes and the speed of the players and the shots. Love it, love it, love it!

Just say "when!"

Bob.......Wilson Park was my big hangout when i was a kid. We would fish in the lagoon. (They actually had FISH in there back then) And we would watch the Admirals at the ice rink. I only lived a few miles from there.
We would ride our bikes down the cement "river" that went from behind the apartments on 23rd street, all the way to the park.
Those were the days!!!

Hockey is the greatest sport to play. It's the second best sport to watch. I love hockey.

I'm gonna go to see the opener in Helsinki next year. I'm already pumped up about that.

'Canes is my favorite team right now because they have Tuomo Ruutu, Jussi Jokinen and Joni Pitknen.
