Hey everyone,
Just wanted to finally break my posting cherry with a discussion. I've been reading this site for basically as long as it has been around but never actually registered, always been over at the god awful packersforum.com site. Anyway, i'm as diehard as it gets and from the east coast of Canada so expect me to be hanging around for a long time lol.

Anyway, im at work right now so not a whole lot of time for research, but i was thinking about our last several years under Ted and how we basically just break the league cap minimum every year. Since it's fairly certain we will be cap free soon, and the rumour has been around for years, does anyone think that we have basically just been saving and investing a large sum of money to compete once we turn into baseball.

I know a city as small as GreenBay is going to be hurting in any kind of bidding war once the larger cities are involved. and maybe this is our way of not falling of the earth for a while once hell breaks loose.
Any thoughts?

That, and signing our own ascending players who have earned their big contracts. Young teams such as the Packers are prone to having a lot of their young stars hit their first, or second big contract within a fairly short time.

The same people who bitch about our not blowing our wad on a player like Haynesworth or Peppers, are the same people who will bitch endlessly should we lose a player like Jennings, Collins or Tramon Williams....and in BOTH cases, the fantasy football crowd would be ready to gut Ted Thompson for the offense.

Just my opinion.

yeah man makes sense. I'd hate it if the packers were one of these teams that continually loose their own stars because of the signing of others, new franchise faces would drive me nuts ever few years.. atleast i know ted wants me lookin at the hideous rodgers stash for a long time

that was brought up on wssp 1250 am in milwaukee..

The profit margin grows by the amount of cap space that is not used.

Mark Murphy even mentioned that it does factor into the profits ( how much cap is left)

I really dont want there to be a non cap to our teams. Thats the way the UK has their soccer teams and its a joke IMO.

The money teams always stay good and the not money teams just stay average. Boring ...

besides the fact I dont like soccer ...

I see a lot of loyalty to the guys who have performed.

Even without a cap their will always be a budget for player salaries and only so much that can be spent. Tough choices have to be made.

Some players will always be lost. Some you can't afford to lose.

Daniel Snyder may be popular with some fans every April but the Redskin locker room knows their is no respect and the rug can be pulled out from under a player at any time.

For those that don't like Ted Thompson let me remind you that things could be a lot worse.

I don't think that not spending has anything to do with saving for the possibility of a non cap league. GB is suppose to have the 250 million discretionary fund. But that would only keep the team competing for about a year or two.

With the amount that the team has saved being under the cap, it isn't even enough to add a year. Maybe a few months basically.
The world needs ditch diggers too Danny!!!

I really really hope that the worlds best sport doesnt turn into the baseball or soccer, i can only see us competing for a few years then we turn into the Marlins for the next 2 decades.

Then again, maybe we have the type of owners who see this franchise as a business instead of a passion. Putting teams good enough out there just to keep people happy. after 13-3 we virtually did nothing, but after our 4-12 year there had to be major changes. If we compete and can pocket as much money as possible it's a win win in their eyes.

It's his philosophy. Thompson isn't scared to spend big money, he's scared to spend big money in free agency.

Also, Football will never be like Baseball. I expect if they don't resolve the situation they'll be a work stoppage sometime in 2011 or 2012.

Zero2Cool (14h) : Fake news. Cowboys say no
Zero2Cool (15h) : Mystery candidate in the Cowboys head coaching search believed to be Packers ST Coordinator Rich Bisaccia.
beast (23-Jan) : Also why do both NYC teams have absolutely horrible OL for over a decade?
beast (23-Jan) : I wonder why the Jets always hire defensive coaches to be head coach
Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : Still HC positions available out there. I wonder if Hafley pops up for one
Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : Trent Baalke is out as the Jaguars GM.
dfosterf (22-Jan) : Jeff Hafley would have been a better choice, fortunately they don't know that. Someone will figure that out next off season
Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : Aaron Glenn Planning To Take Jets HC Job
dfosterf (22-Jan) : Martha- C'est mon boulot! 😁
Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : Thank you
wpr (22-Jan) : Z, glad you are feeling better.
wpr (22-Jan) : My son and D-I-L work for UM. It's a way to pick on them.
Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : Thank you. I rarely get sick, and even more rarely sick to the point I can't work.
wpr (22-Jan) : Beast- back to yesterday, I CAN say OSU your have been Michigan IF the odds of making the playoffs were more urgent.
dfosterf (22-Jan) : Glad to hear you are feeling a bit better.
Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : I've been near death ill last several days, finally feel less dead and site issues.
Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : It is a big deal. This host is having issues. It's frustrating.
Martha Careful (22-Jan) : just kidding...it was down
Martha Careful (22-Jan) : you were blocked yesterday, due to a a recalcitrant demeanor yesterday in the penalty box for a recalcitrant demeanor
dfosterf (22-Jan) : Was that site shutdown on your end or mine? No big deal, just curious
beast (21-Jan) : That way teams like Indiana and SMU don't make the conference championships by simply avoiding all the other good teams in their own confere
beast (21-Jan) : Also, with these "Super Conferences" instead of a single conference champion, have 4 teams make a Conference playoffs.
beast (21-Jan) : Also in college football, is a bye week a good or bad thing?
Martha Careful (21-Jan) : The tournament format was fine. Seeding could use some work.
beast (21-Jan) : You can't assume Ohio State would of won the Michigan game...
beast (21-Jan) : Rankings were 1) Oregon 2) Georgia 3) Texas 4) Penn State 5) Notre Dame 6) Ohio State, none of the rest mattered
wpr (21-Jan) : Texas, ND and OSU would have been fighting for the final 2 slots.
wpr (21-Jan) : Oregon and Georgia were locks. Without the luxury of extra playoff berths, Ohios St would have been more focused on Michigan game.
wpr (21-Jan) : Zero, no. If there were only 4 teams Ohio State would have been one of them. Boise St and ASU would not have been selected.
Zero2Cool (21-Jan) : So that was 7 vs 8, that means in BCS they never would made it?
Martha Careful (21-Jan) : A great game. Give ND credit for coming back, although I am please with the outcome.
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : FG to make it academic
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : and there's the dagger
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : ooooo 8 point game with 4 minutes to go!
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : ooooooooohhhhhh he missed!
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Ooooo that completion makes things VERY interesting
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Game not over yet
beast (21-Jan) : Oh yeah, Georgia starting quarterback season ending elbow injury
beast (21-Jan) : Sadly something happened to Georgia... they should be playing in this game against Ohio State
beast (21-Jan) : I thought Ohio State and Texas were both better than Notre Dame & Penn State
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Notre Lame getting rolled
Martha Careful (21-Jan) : Ohio State just got punched in the gut. Lets see how they respond
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Notre Lame vs the Luckeyes, bleh
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Oh snap!!!
Zero2Cool (21-Jan) : Even Stevie Wonder can see that.
Zero2Cool (21-Jan) : Nah, you see Lions OC leaving to be HC of Bears is directly related to Packers.
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : ohhhhhhh Zero is in TROUBLE
packerfanoutwest (21-Jan) : Zero, per your orders, check Bearshome, not packershome
Zero2Cool (20-Jan) : Then he'll land with another team and flourish.
Zero2Cool (20-Jan) : Ben going to Bears. He'll be out in 3 years.
