Didn't think this would deserve its own thread, so I'll post it here. It's from an NFL.com chat with Steve Wyche.

Do you think the Packers will trade their 9th pick in order to stock pile draft picks in order to obtain 3-4 scheme players throughout the draft?

Steve Wyche, NFL.com
Josh, The only way the Pack trades that 9th pick is if they feel they can get the player they want a little later, which leads me to believe they probably won't trade the pick. Teams that are trying to get into the top 10 are looking to sign OTs and from what I've heard this week, Green Bay is looking hard at OTs, so I don't think they would give up that spot to a team that might select the player that they've targeted. If the player(s) they like gets selected before No. 9, they could try to move down.

This is something I'm quite happy with. I'd prefer a nose tackle, but a good pass rush won't help alot if we can't actually keep Rodgers standing up. This would also explain why we still haven't resigned Tauscher.

Ok, I posted this in another thread, according to Wyche we are looking at O-lineman and now I found this little piece of footage.

I think we'd be in prime position to get this guy. I don't think the Rams will go for him that high with the issues he's had and we're the next one on the board of those 4 teams.

Question is though, do we really want him? I put alot more stock in his college production than in his pro day, but he did jus walk out on the combine, pointing on some character/commitment issues. I know this won't be the same, but Mandarich comes to mind, just a little scared about getting him.

With the way his pro day went, if we were targeting Andre Smith, we could trade back for Philly's 2 1st rounders if Crabtree drops to us (they need a WR), and grab him at 21.

I can see Ted Thompson taking Smith after all he did select Harrell lol. If Crabtree fell to us i would be on the verge of driving back to GB and personally taking Ted Thompson for a long ride off a short pier. Maybe take him hunting up nort and come back alone. Crabtree is far more valuable then Jones and Nelson.
Just Imagine this for the next 6-9 years. What a ride it will be 🙂 (PS, Zero should charge for this)

I was sort of joking. Andre Smith won't fall as far as people are suggesting he will. It's just that a large number of teams WANT him to fall that far.

Hey, wouldn't that mean you'd be in the car too?

What was Smith's 40? Did he not dominate the SEC for a couple years. This guy is more athletic than any of the OT's. Yeah, he's a fat boy too, but so was Gilbert.

And Dhazer, if we have the choice between Smith and Crabtree, Uncle Ted will take Smith 10 out of 10 times.

Are Crabtrees measureables even that spectacular? A 4.5 something 40 for a 330lb is.

I didn't know people were so pissed off about the Jordy Nelson pick. The Bears fans I was talking to were pissed, but not Packers fans...

9. Packers

Andre Smith - OT - Alabama

Mark Tauscher has not yet been re-signed, and Smith is a mauling right tackle candidate who will creep back up the draft boards in the next month as he repairs his mistake of leaving the combine early.

I at least like raji better then smith and I'm not really a big fan of raji.

Rather we shore up our Oline with a 3rd+ round pick.

Anyone but A. Smith IMO - whens the next time do you think we will get a #9 or better draft pick? Hopefully not for a long time.

And we are going to take a guy with already questionable personality flaws/ethics. Why dont we just throw a back injury on him and call it a day.

Next year? Lmao sorry just had to say it i really don't see anything that has improved the the team so far. Now people want a guy that walks out on one of his biggest days so far and then he flops his pro day. Actually thinking of it i hope Ted Thompson takes him so we can show him the door faster.

Mucky Tundra (8-Aug) : *had to be IRed at 53
Mucky Tundra (8-Aug) : beast, I thought the designate return from IR players had to be IR at cutdowns to 53, not before
beast (8-Aug) : It's a brand new rule, either last season or this season, prior, all pre-season IRs were done for the season
beast (8-Aug) : But the Packers would have to use one for their return from IR spots on him, when they cut down to 53.
beast (8-Aug) : I think the NFL recently changed the IR rules, so maybe the season might not be over for OL Glover.
Zero2Cool (8-Aug) : Packers star Howton, first NFLPA prez, dies at 95 😔
dfosterf (8-Aug) : Apparently it is too complicated for several to follow your simple instructions, but I digress
