In all honesty, I've never been all that impressed with him. He's been an adequate reserve in his 4 years in Green Bay, but hasn't really developed into someone who could be a quality starter imo.

Even if we run a hybrid 3-4/4-3 the first year, I'd rather give the roster spots to players who better fit the mold of a 3-4 DE and not waste cap space on guys who really don't fit it that well like Montgomery.

Admittedly a one-year deal isn't that bad, but I guess I'd just rather move on and let Montgomery sign elsewhere and pick up his replacement in the draft.

Our biggest weakness last season was stopping the run. So far only 1 player on defence has left....Cole.

We will have retained 99% of the defence and are switching to the 3-4 mainly because it's harder to game plan against, stop the run and improve special teams. So why are we keeping players who have proven they can't stop the run, doesn't that defeat the whole point of our objective?

Montgomery is one of the worst and i cannot believe we are trying to keep him. Why cant we invest that money on proven guys like Carter or Holliday.

I guess they believe he can fill out and get to 285-290 lbs. with no problem. I question his ability though. Montgomery didn't really show anything special at all last year.

yeah he was just a space taken up on the field. he wasn't terrible but he wasn't any good. if he got bigger and alot stronger then we would be able to keep him but he really needs to bulk up.

Again, no one else to sign. Fill the roster TT. This defense should be stellar once again.

I think you are forgetting the fact that after the draft and rosters have to get cut down there will be SEVERAL good football players out there. There always are. This is far from "no one else to sign."

I saw a little more out of Montgomery than a lot of you seemingly did. I can remember a handful of plays where I was impressed by the pressure/sack/whatever, and when I checked to see who it was I was surprised to find it was 96. I think there was a 2 or 3 game stretch where it happened repeatedly.
