Mark Lee did it very well, for a very long time. Great CB on some truly bad teams.

Just to be sure we're still on topic, the original post clearly stated CB. It even said it in CAPS.

I hate the word ever, because me being a young one and only watching the Packers since 1976, I missed the Hall of Famers from the 60s. Didn't we have 2, or were they a CB and a S?

But since 1976, I may have to go with Charles Woodson as the best CB on the Packers I've ever seen.

Woodson is also a superb tackler. He's good at tackling RBs that come to his side. Wasn't Woody 4th in total tackles in one of his years here? That's HUGE for a CB.

Both Willie Wood and Herb Adderly are I believe hall of famers. IF Woodson ever gets in (I don't think he will have the numbers) then we could consider him in their catagory.

Being 21, I know you have seen very little of any of these two. They were both shutdowns.....

In Addition to Wood and Adderly.. one could throw in names like for discussion..

Bob Jeter
Timmy Lewis - Hell of a corner back... career cut short due to injury.

When throwing a term around like best ever in franchise history, one has to look at more than just modern era football.

A little tidbit on each of them....

Willie Wood - Starting Safety for the Pack from 1960-1971 and retired a Packer. He was undrafted out of college and Vince Lombardi converted him from a QB to a FS. Won All-NFL honors 9 times, Pro Bowl 8 times, and had 48 INTs in his 12 years. He also had the interception that broke the Chiefs in SB I.

Made it to the Hall in 1989. Was also a Head Coach, once in the World Football League (whatever that was), and once in CFL.

Herb Adderly - Our first round pick in 1961. Played CB, even though he was drafted as a HB. He converted to CB after an injury and permanently became a CB in 1962.

He shares the Packers record of INTs returned for TDs with 7 (with Darren Sharper). Started as CB for the Packers until '69, then went to the Cows unfortunately.

In Super Bowl II, it was his INT returned 60 yards for a TD that put the game away. Ended up playing on six Championship teams and was quoted as saying "I'm the only man with a Dallas Cowboys Super Bowl ring who doesn't wear it. I'm a Green Bay Packer." Heh. Gotta love that.

Finished his career with 48 total INTs, 7 TDs from INT returns, 2 TDs from KO returns, and made it to the Hall in 1980.

I'd be really happy if we could put Woody in the same sentence as these folks and it may happen if Woody continues to play as he has the past three years. If he does this for another 3 years, he may be a shoe-in for the Hall.

The original poster said CBs, so even Willie Wood is out. I just included a tidbit on him just because.

So it's currently Woodson against Adderly it appears. Woody got 4 INTs returned for TDs, Adderly 7. Woody has 36 INTs, Adderly 48.

If Woody has 3 more years like '06-08, he may have a really good shot at landing himself a spot in Canton.

How about Don Hutson the DB?

Stats..

Year Age G GS Int Yds TD Lng
1940*+ 27	11	6	6	24	0	0
1941*+ 28	11	4	1	32	0	32
1942*+ 29	11	4	7	71	0	27
1943+ 30	10	9	8	197	1	84
1944+ 31	10	7	4	50	0	43
1945+ 32	10	0	4	15	0	15
Career 116	60	30	389	1	84

Those are in 11 or 10 game seasons and no where near the same type of passing offense of today's game.

That is .5 picks a game... Woodson's 19 picks in 46 games comes out to a .41 picks per game.

well off defensive backs i would go with Willie Wood, at cb i would probably go with Herb Adderley but Woodson is up there.

Only 1 TD though. Also keep in mind, it was easier for Hutson to get INTs than Woody. Nowadays, you look at a WR wrong and it's a penalty. Back then, you could pretty much do everything to a WR except punch him in the face.

Going off topic, it's even more extreme with QBs. Might as well wear skirts nowadays.

Back on topic, thanks for the stats on Hutson though. I never knew he got that many INTs. Must have been exhausting playing both sides of the ball, so that's another thing in Hutson's favor.
