Tell you the truth - I wasnt that impressed with hawks play this past year. And I'm not sure hes got the strength to be a OLB guy.

Personally I'd rather have hawk, barnett and bishop trade off as the 2 ILBers. With kampman and either a good draftie or a FA as the opposite of kampman.

Maualuga did look pretty good thou; just not sure hes worth a #9 pick. Be interesting to see whom we get with the FA and draft this year.

-oh was going to say- I like Brace also instead of Raji-

I liked the latest Mock having us take Maybin from Penn State.

I don't think Hawk is a good enough pass rusher to play outside linebacker in the 3-4. I believe Dom Capers' system relies on the two backers on the outside getting pressure.

ya I agree; I'm one of those that wasnt that impressed with hawks ability last season as our MLB.

Barnett did a much better job at the position. I think Dom is going to do some good things to our D. We also have Kevein Greene (one of the best if not the best LB that ever played).

Dom said in his recent video interview to expect a few years for us to fully go with a 3-4. So I would assume that on some plays we will still be set at a 4 man down upfront.

wasn't pass rushing one of hawks best attributes coming out of college?

I think it is a little harsh on Hawk to grade him on his play at MLB this year. After suffering a groin injury, that really hampers the training and conditioning that can be done. Then getting moved, to a position that he hasn't played in years.

I actually like the prospect of Hawk on the inside. I think he will use his added size over Barnett to an advantage. I can see him being used as the primary run blitzer, either making the tackle or occupying the blockers to free Barnett.

To be fair, when have we ever seen Hawk in that role? Granted, he'd have to put on some weight, but I don't think that'd be much trouble for him.

Good points. If Hawk could eat up some blockers, Barnett could really have a field day with his speed and toughness that he usually shows (until this year).

Also, I always thought Hawk was pretty good in coverage overall, at least until this year. Perhaps he'll excel in zone coverage? I would imagine man-to-man is much more difficult for 90% of coverage players, with the exception of Al Harris! 🙂
