If you sold tickets to divisional rivals last year, you might be out of your season tickets

The Green Bay Packers announced on Friday  that they will increase the price of regular season tickets between $7 and $21 a game, “depending on location.” The team also disclosed that season ticket holders were sent invoices today, which also feature increases of $3 to $11 per preseason game. Season ticket holders have until March 28th to make their payments.

Maybe more importantly, though, the Packers  are pushing forward with their “non-renewal exercise.” At the end of its press release, the franchise claims that it will be declining the renewal of season tickets for purchasers who have sold “100 percent of their tickets for regular-season games for multiple years” and will offer those season ticket opportunities to fans on the waiting list.

This, particularly, impacts Gold Package members more than Green Package members. Last year, Gold Package members, a holdover from the Packers’ time in Milwaukee, received just three regular-season games as part of that package. If you sold all three of those tickets, all of which were divisional games, you could be on the chopping block.

The club has stated that this push is to ensure that Packers fans are filling their stadium. Over the past couple of seasons, we’ve seen opposing fans, particularly the Detroit Lions , take over Lambeau Field for major games . Green Bay’s message seems to be clear: Reselling to non-Packers fans is going to be punished by the organization. The more it happens, the more steps the franchise will take to purge season ticket renewals.

I don't have a problem with pulling the plug on fans who sell all of their tickets. I have never resold any of mine. Although there were a couple of times I didn't have any family to pass them on to. I still have them away to friends.

I didn't know the Packers had been removing STH who resold their tickets.
Last year I decided that fans who can't make it to the game should be required to resell their tickets to fans on the waiting list. Tickets would have to be funneled back through the Packers in order to make sure they go to real Packers fans. It would give the fans that have been on the list the longest first chance. The selection process would move down the list as the season wore on. If the first fan on the list declines to attend the first game, he is out of the running for the rest of the year. Each person on the list would only get two tickets. If a STH has 4 seats available then they will be split between two fans on the waiting list.
I am not opposed to a mark up on the tickets. I am not opposed to the Packers getting a cut of the resell action along with the STH as well.

My guess is some of these season ticket holders that lose the right to renew will try to sue the Packers. I also anticipate cry baby tik toks.

Apparently other NFL clubs do it too.

I believe that what the Packers are doing is perfectly legitimate. The problem I see is thanks to every little perceived wrong done to someone almost inevitably winds up with some lawsuit being filed, merit having not all that much to do with it. I can further envision a scenario where some mass tort better call Saul and/or ambulance chasing type lawyer starts running ads in (probably) Milwaukee to enlist plaintiffs for a class action lawsuit. Not saying that will happen, but will be very not surprised if it does.
