Basically asking did the LBers improve the last two weeks, or did the other teams simply decide not to run the ball, and instead dinked and dunked in the passing game all around the LBers?

Also, suggesting we'll find out soon, because the Lions will try to run the ball on them, unlike the last two offenses.

This week will be massive for how we perceive Quay Walker moving forward

Between his struggles in fitting the run and several ejections, things haven’t gone exactly according to plan for former first-round pick Quay Walker in his 2.5 years with the Green Bay Packers . Over the last few weeks, though, Walker has seemingly improved in the run game overnight, drawing praise from both fans and coaches alike.

Here’s the catch: The Packers jumped to quick leads over the San Francisco 49ers  and Miami Dolphins , something that will be tough to do against the NFC-leading Detroit Lions  on Thursday. The result? The 49ers ran the ball all of three times in the first half against Green Bay. The Dolphins rushed for 39 combined yards on Thanksgiving.

Meanwhile, the Lions have a two-headed backfield in David Montgomery and Jahmyr Gibbs and aren’t afraid to throw in an extra offensive lineman in at tight end to make sure the ground game is moving smoothly. The Packers respected Detroit’s run game so much that Green Bay frequently played their base personnel, with only two cornerbacks on the field, against the Lions’ three-receiver sets — matching up linebacker Eric Wilson over a slot receiver — often in their first matchup this season. Generally, the Packers tend to match cornerbacks to receivers at a league-leading rate.

So it’s safe to say that Detroit’s run game, the core of their offense that’s built around power football, is going to be very different than what Green Bay has faced during Walker’s “turnaround.”

Even in Walker’s “turnaround,” too, there are some other hints that the step forward for the run game was really just opposing offenses choosing to attack the Packers’ defense through the air. According to Next Gen Stats, which is where the NFL’s player tracking data gets dumped, Green Bay’s cornerbacks were only the closest defenders to Miami receivers on 73 of the defense’s 365 passing yards allowed last week, as the Dolphins and quarterback Tua Tagovailoa peppered the intermediate middle of the field — generally a zone where linebackers roam.

If you look at Tagovailoa’s spray chart from the game , it tells the story by itself.

Per Pro Football Focus, which charts these games beyond player tracking data, 237 of Tagovailoa’s passing yards were credited as plays where linebackers were the primary coverage defenders targeted. While Quay Walker and Eric Wilson combined to give up 96 yards, not exactly a great result, it was Isaiah McDuffie who was the biggest culprit on the team against Miami, as he is listed with 141 yards allowed in the game. Woof.

Edgerrin Cooper, arguably the Packers’ best coverage linebacker, has missed the past couple of games with a hamstring injury and has been a non-participant in Green Bay’s two practices this week. Assuming that Cooper isn’t going to play, the trio of Walker, Wilson and McDuffie will start over Ty’Ron Hopper — a rookie who has only played on defense in one game this regular season — versus Detroit.

If Walker really turned the corner, we’re going to find out this week. If McDuffie and Wilson are steady enough to be able to contribute as every-down linebackers, we’re going to find out this week. Just give me this one last data point before I anoint the Packers’ linebacker room.

On Tweeter someone posted about how the Packers held McCaffery and Achane to something like 50 yards or whatever it was. I said but Packers gave up almost 600 yards passing. In other words, teams were passing a lot. Apparently me pointing that out means I'm not a Packers fan. I didn't even mention that McCaffery was coming off an injury and still wasn't fully back into football shape. 😁

Zero2Cool (6h) : If I were to "Google" it, then I wouldn't read it in your words.
Martha Careful (8h) : Yes, in the military S2’s work on IPB, PERCEC, PHYSEC and IO
dfosterf (23h) : FYI civilian companies swipe the S2 designation from the military. S2 is the intelligence branch up to brigade level. G2 is division level.
dfosterf (4-May) : Google it. Make sure to tack NFL on it or you will get the military meaning
Zero2Cool (4-May) : S2?
beast (4-May) : Seems like the S2 has a love/hate relationship with professional scouts.
beast (4-May) : In theory, the S2 test how quickly a QBs brain can solve game like issues and how quickly they can do it.
dfosterf (4-May) : Are you gentlemen and at least one lady familiar with the S2 cognition
Zero2Cool (4-May) : Maybe there isn't an issue.
beast (4-May) : NFL really needs to fix their position labeling issue, but I don't think they care
Zero2Cool (1-May) : Packers did not activate the fifth-year options for linebacker Quay Walker, with the goal of signing him to a contract extension.
Zero2Cool (1-May) : Matthew Golden spoke with Randall Cobb before draft. Looked like chance encounter.
packerfanoutwest (1-May) : from a head left turn?

Zero2Cool (1-May) : Unlikely.
dfosterf (30-Apr) : How long until Jeff Sperbeck's family sues John Elway ?
Zero2Cool (30-Apr) : Packers are exercising the fifth-year option on DT Devonte Wyatt, locking in a guaranteed $12.9M for the 2026 season.
beast (30-Apr) : Sounds like P Luke Elzinga has a rookie try out opportunity from the Titans
dfosterf (30-Apr) : Luke Elzinga Punter Oklahoma stil unsigned. Green Bay has been mentioned as good fit

Zero2Cool (29-Apr) : Micah Robinson is only 19??
Zero2Cool (29-Apr) : 6 first rounders on Packers defense now
Zero2Cool (29-Apr) : LB Isaiah Simmons. Signed. Called it!!! Oh yeah!

bboystyle (29-Apr) : Tom*
Martha Careful (28-Apr) : RIP Packer Safety Tim Brown
beast (27-Apr) : Yeah, but also some of the wording suggestions Jax only pranked called the QB, not the others... and if he had an open spreadsheet & 3 calls
beast (27-Apr) : Thank goodness he's not leaving the Turtle in the Red Tide
Mucky Tundra (27-Apr) : Cowboys 1st round pick Tyler Booker will indeed be bringing his pet turtle to Dallas with him
Mucky Tundra (27-Apr) : that contained all prospects info and contact
Mucky Tundra (27-Apr) : beast, according the Falcons statement Jax came across it on an ipad. If I had to guess, probably an open spread sheet or something
Zero2Cool (27-Apr) : Simmons put up an emoji with cheese.
beast (27-Apr) : Not sure anyone is interested in Isaiah Simmons... Collin Oliver might of taken his potential slot
beast (27-Apr) : I'm going with Jax Ulbrich is not telling the whole truth... he accidentally came across it? Why would a defensive coordinator have a QB #?
Zero2Cool (27-Apr) : He's not that great, but final piece of the script.\
Zero2Cool (27-Apr) : If we add Isaiah Simmons, book your Super Bowl tickets
Mucky Tundra (27-Apr) : Colts 1st round TE Tyler Warren also got prank called, was that Jax Ulbrich as well?
Zero2Cool (27-Apr) : Jax Ulbrich, Jeff Ulbrich’s son, released an apology for his role in the Shedeur Sanders prank call.
Martha Careful (27-Apr) : apparently he did not participate in practice or play on the east west shrine game nor the NFL combine. The kid was a mediocre spoiled brat
Mucky Tundra (27-Apr) : Yeah that one that was a super wounded duck that Sanders supporters are highlighting to prove a point
Zero2Cool (27-Apr) : Shough is the guy who missed guys at combine isn't he?
beast (27-Apr) : It's not official until I'm dead! I have a chance still! (Not really)
Mucky Tundra (27-Apr) : I could feel my body decomposing in real time when I read that
Mucky Tundra (27-Apr) : @MIKEYSAINRISTIL Tyler Shough will officially be the last person drafted to the NFL born in the 1900’s
Mucky Tundra (26-Apr) : saw the tweet, he meant the city
Mucky Tundra (26-Apr) : Was that for the team or the city?
Zero2Cool (26-Apr) : Adam Schefter @AdamSchefter · 3m Draft grade is in: Green Bay gets an A. The people, the city, the venue were all superb. NFL Draft’s next
