And he has a record of coordinating defences that are solid against the run. Dare I say it, maybe just maybe Capers can find a use for Harrell? :spiderman:

Well if he would sit still.. a oversized paperweight just might be his calling.

Wrong thread for a Bold Prediction.. but one of mine.. Justin contributing on the defensive line.. if the kid is truly the kid that Ted claims.. maybe Justin catches a break and stays healthy for the entire season.

Since I am hear with this off topic angle.. another little rumor I caught but haven't heard anything upon... would make some sense..

Think Harrell's injury lifting this offseason and Rock being let go had any connection?

The more I think about his hire.. the more I like the thought.

The thing is though Harrell was supposed to be a run stuffer. Coming back this year, he was playing on passing downs. That's very worrying, even if Harrell was injured.

Interesting thought on Gullickson's fate being tied to Harrell. The only thing that I can bring up to counter that would be Ted's seemingly lack of confidence in Harrell.

I brought this up in another thread, but in the post-season interview in the JS, it just seemed like Ted had become resigned to Harrell as a bust. At least it appeared that Ted wasn't hopeful that Harrell could contribute a whole lot going forward, what with the absence of a "we (still) think Justin can be a very good player for us" line.

If Ted thought Harrell's problems were tied to Rock Gullickson, I think Ted would've at least said he still feels confident that Harrell will pan out. Ted has never been shy about saying that about his young players, yet he didn't say it once when talking about Harrell.

I read into it different.. he was validating that Harrell is trying to get past these injuries and the issue isn't tied to lack of effort or heart.. more or less that we would get past the injuries and still be a player..

Couldn't find that freaking article to reread.

Anyway.. rumor as I heard it.. Rock's special project this offseason was getting Harrell to camp ready to go.. the injury and the techniques used were heavily questioned post Harrell injury per the rumor... add to it player complaints in the post season wrap up interviews.. and out goes Rock.

While I am not one much on rumors.. the reason I post this is to see if there is anything else people have heard to validate it.. it seems to make some sense in the ouster of a touted add to MM staff at one time..

Well the only thing I can add to validate that would be Greg Bedard's blog post that stated that Rock's firing had (and I quote) "Ted's fingerprints all over it"...

I'm curious 93z, do you have any specifics about the complains that arose during wrap-up interviews from the players?

I could have sworn Harrell's niche was being a pass rushing DL, not a run stuffer.

I do not know though, I don't follow college ball or players who are on the bench all season. Dirk Off!

Who is this Harrell kid that you speak of?
Has he ever been "impact player of the week"?

He was supposed to be a dynamic pass-rusher because of his extreme athleticism. He was basically a very quiet Warren Sapp.

Watching the Vols back then, I think he actually scored three touchdowns during his time there. His size and fat hands had a lot to do with it.

Despite his pass rushing ability, he didn't get too many sacks though.

A group of us were discussing it the other day at work. The leading thought was maybe Rock's dismissal was tied to the hamstring injuries--potentially due to overdeveloping the quads in relation to the hamstrings.
