Packers waive RB James Robinson and WR Bo Melton

Green Bay signed both players off of the practice squad going into last week’s game against the Detroit Lions.

On Monday, the Green Bay Packers announced that they have released running back James Robinson and receiver Bo Melton from their 53-man active roster. Last week, both players were brought up off of the practice squad , as the Packers were dealing with injuries at their offensive skill positions going into their game against the Detroit Lions .

It’s uncertain at this point if either player will be re-signed to the practice squad, should they pass through the waiver process. Currently, the Packers have 15 players on their practice squad — including international exemption Kenneth Odumegwu — which means they do have room to bring back those players.

Robinson was signed to the practice squad and then promoted to the 53-man roster after Emmanuel Wilson was placed on the injured reserve. Starting running back Aaron Jones was also held out against Detroit. In response, the Packers also signed Patrick Taylor — who was previously on the New England Patriots ’ practice squad — to their active roster. Taylor will spend at least the next two weeks on Green Bay’s 53-man roster, per the rules for practice squad poaches.

Melton was activated as a response to Dontayvion Wicks missing time for a concussion. On Monday, Wicks practiced with the Packers, and head coach Matt LaFleur stated that Wicks is officially out of concussion protocol. Neither Robinson nor Melton were practicing in Green Bay today .

Despite being active for game day against Detroit, Robinson didn’t record a snap for the Packers on Thanksgiving. Melton played eight snaps, with six of them coming on special teams, in his regular-season debut.

Green Bay has two open roster spots on their active roster now, but the assumption is that they’ll eventually use those for cornerback Eric Stokes and safety Darnell Savage, two preferred starting defensive backs who are on the injured reserve. Savage returned to practice last week, while Stokes began his 21-day practice window on Monday.

That was fast...

Any rumor whom will fill their spots?

I believe Savage and Stokes are in the 21 practice window when coming back from IR, but I think they're early into that window.

This was expected, I'm betting both guys knew they were emergency signings and they would be released after the game.
I fully expect both to be back on the PS unless they are claimed or decide they want to go elsewhere.

As far as who is coming back, The Packers have all week to make that decision.

The life of the fringe player has to be nerve wracking!

They both got that ONE WEEK regular paycheck.
