All the sports league to be tough on gambling, as if they aren't, then the lawmakers (sooner or later) will be with regulations. That how it relates to the NFL, but still, I found the bold part below very interesting.

https://www.nbcsports.com/nfl/profootballtalk/rumor-mill/news/phil-mickelsons-alleged-gambling-habit-could-contribute-to-more-oversight-of-all-sports

In this new age of legalized gambling, the NFL needs to worry about an NFL scandal increasing governmental scrutiny of the sport. The NFL also needs to worry about the potential impact of a gambling scandal in some other sport. There’s no real oversight. There will be abuses. There will be violations. There will be shenanigans. If/when a sufficiently big controversy comes to light, Congress might decide to shine the brightest of bulbs on all American sports — not just the one that gave rise to the issue.

While the recent news about golfer Phil Mickelson likely won’t be such a catalyst, it’s enough to raise plenty of eyebrows. Via TheAthletic.com, gambling Billy Walters claims in a new book that Mickelson has wagered more than $1 billion over the past three decades. Most significantly, Mickelson allegedly tried to get Walters to make a $400,000 bet on the 2012 Ryder Cup team, of which Mickelson was a member.

Walters said he declined to do it, reminding Mickelson of Pete Rose. Walters also said he doesn’t know whether Mickelson made the bet elsewhere. (If he did, he lost.)

I don't think I could be more fed up with all this "person caught gambling" crap. Wouldn't be surprised if there's betting lines on who is gonna get busted next!

The only reason it's obnoxious to me is seeing leagues like the NFL making millions and millions off gambling and then taking to task those who "represent" the league via paycheck. It's like your wife parading a bunch of 25 year old women in your house butt ass naked then smacking you for glancing at one.

To put that into your analogy, the Married man can't glance at his own wife (whom is paying him millions) and can't look at the other women while inside her house, but can do whatever he wants with the other women when off of her property.

The NFL player can have sex with their supermodel wife. (getting paid millions to play a sport)
They can't smoke crack at work. (gambling on NFL games, which is just dumb multiplied by dumb)
But they can get blackout drunk at the bar. (gambling on other sports - also dumb, but not as dumb)
