We’ve actually looked at cruise ships [but] I don’t know if the ice would be thawed by then.
Zero was the first person I heard float this idea in regards to hosting a SB. I was listening to a podcast a few days ago and they mentioned Jax is a small city so they brought in 5 cruise ships to meet their needs.
I don't know how deep Green Bay is compared to Jacksonville.
Edit- I did a quick check Jacksonville Harbor (its on the St John's River) was recently dredged to 47 feet. It was 40' previously. I assume that is what it was in 2005. I am ignoring any silting that might have taken place.
Green Bay is 6' at the private marinas. I didn't get a good answer at the freight harbor. North of the harbor it is 26 feet "below low water datum" from Grassy Island to the entrance light. 24' "below low water datum" from Grassy Island to Mason St Bridge.
Cruise ships have a draft of 25' for older vessels and up to 50' on some of the newer ones. I am sure they would have to opt for smaller ships designed to tour on the Great Lakes. Thing is, how many would they need? Probably more than 10. Possible 20 or 30 depending on size. Then the issue becomes can they all fit into the docks that are available? I don't think so. Next you need a fleet of buses to run the peons to the stadium and limos for the upper crust execs and media folks. It would probably become a logistical nightmare.
Holding Day 1 in Milwaukee and Days 2 and 3 in GB seems more likely. They can have some of the Great Unwashed milling around Title Town District and watching the action on CC Tvs but they would not be there in front of the live action.
Still if they can pull it off it would be a lot of fun.
