we should get a good pick in the draft

Ok? What does that have to do with anything regarding this topic?

I don't believe Harris will be cut, though I can see Thompson quietly floating him on the trade market to see what he's worth.

If Thompson drafts a quality receiver, I am confident Martin will be gone. His output this season was very low, partly because of injury and partly because the Packers game plan never seemed to include him. Given his extraordinarily high TD-to-catch ratio, though, I would think that there might be some trade value for him. I doubt he would be cut outright unless there were no other options.

Isn't Martin a free agent anyways? If so, he'll get starters money from some team.

I believe 7th round pick Brett Swain was on the practice squad this year. I think he and Shaun Bodiford will compete for the 5th receiver spot in this year's training camp.

I hope Harris isn't moved. Tramon Williams wasn't very good late in the year specifically against Carolina and Houston.

I don't think he's worth any more than a 6th or 7th round pick, and probably not even that. He's our #5 receiver. You can draft a #5 receiver in the 6th or 7th round.

I hope Ruvell sticks around, though. I like him.

I think Tauscher and Clifton will both be gone, and it will be interesting to see what the O-line looks like next year.

And yes, I agree that Bob Sanders should probably be gone.

Regarding players

I believe Mark Tauscher is going to be not retained.

As far as veterans being released. Chad Clifton seems like the first obvious candidate. He's really worn down in my opinion.

I'd be hesitant to release these two, especially in light of what Woodson said today.

Basically, Woodson said the team needs to bring in more vets, implying there is a leadership void from when Brett departed that never really got filled. Cliffy and Taush are two of the vet. leaders that we can't afford to lose (assuming you give Woodson's assessment credence).

That said, Cliffy has one year left on his deal, so cutting him wouldn't cost a huge financial hit. I still think he has something to offer, especially if the team decides to lessen the Zone blocking.

As for Taush, seeing as had such a major injury (If I were Ted) I'd look to see if Taush could be brought back for cheap. Maybe give him an incentive based deal, or a two year contract that sees the backend of the contract loaded heavily.

I do think Montgomery should be gone though, I don't think he has the kind of talent to contribute if (when?) the Packers add quality depth to their d-line. I'd look for one of Pettaway or Hunter to be cut, since both are ST aces, and dedicating two spots to essentially ST players of the same ilk isn't going to happen.

I think that no question, Pettaway should be the one cut in that situation. And Montgomery isn't AWFUL....he isn't bad at stopping the run, and I've seen him in the backfield a few times. He certainly isn't a starter though. He would be more accustomed to being a rotational player.

I don't believe Martin is worth a 3rd or 4th round pick. Maybe on the basis of potential alone you could make that argument, but the reality is that his output over the past couple of years nowhere near justifies such a lopsided transaction.

I thought he was a restricted free agent, but I could be wrong. Even if he's unrestricted, I find it hard to believe he'll get starter's money anywhere. The team would have to be desperate for receiving help.
