Aaron Rodgers said he was talking to a teammate on sideline about LB De’Vondre Campbell during game today: “I just said, ‘How in the hell was this guy on the street?’ It was a great pickup by our personnel staff.” Campbell has been a stunningly good addition to Packers defense.

I agree with Aaron Rodgers here. The Packers have been tackling better and Campbell sure has made a difference. Reminds me of Desmond Bishop in 2010 coming in for Nick Barnett.

Packers LB De'Vondre Campbell the last four games:
vs. DET: Interception in fourth quarter
at SF: Fumble recovery in fourth quarter
vs. PIT: Fourth-down stop on JuJu in fourth quarter
at CIN: Interception in overtime

Campbell has been a PFF 55-60 guy in the past. Now he's 90. Some of that could be because of Barry. Most all the ILB have gone from being the lowest rated players on the team to some of the highest rated players. (Based on PFF)

Matt LaFleur spoke to De’Vondre Campbell on the plane yesterday, just asked him how he liked things in Green Bay so far. He says Campbell has “a little more freedom” in the #Packers scheme than he had in Atlanta, seems to be feeding off it.

If we look at his time with the Packers (2012-15), he graded at 92.2, 72.4, 90, and 71.5. Average of 81.5. It's still kind of crazy that they let him walk when he showed flashes of being elite.

Starting from 2016, he received PFF grades of 82.8, 91.1, 78.5, 83, then the dip down to 59.5 in 2020 and now he's back up to 86.3 for the year with the Raiders. That's the highest grade for a corner so far.

From 2016-2019 he averaged 83.8. If we throw in his down 2020 year he still hits a respectable 78.9 for his time with the Chargers.

I don't know how to compare multiple years on PFF but I would guess there are only a couple of corners who have averaged higher grades since he was drafted (a solid 80). If there are any at all that is - Hayward's career average grade is higher than Jalen Ramsey's (78.7), for instance. His first 4 years in the league were better than Ramsey as well (same 78.7 number).

Now that I'm digging, Jaire Alexander's first 3 years gives him an average of 79.5.

Heyward couldn't stay healthy in Green Bay. Left here, stayed healthy, generally speaking. Stopped missing time with pulled hamstrings every year.
