Jaylon Smith has found a new home.

The linebacker agreed to terms with the Green Bay Packers on Thursday, NFL Network's Tom Pelissero reported. Smith was reported to be near a deal with the Pack on Wednesday night and was finalizing details with the club.

Green Bay won a brief recruiting battle, with money not ending up being much of an issue because the Cowboys, who officially released Smith on Wednesday, is paying most of Smith's 2021 salary, per Rapoport.

Smith was released by the Cowboys just four games into his fifth NFL season. The former second-round pick of Dallas ended up being the odd man out of a linebacking corps that welcomed two new additions via the 2021 draft -- Micah Parsons and Jabril Cox -- and another in the form of safety-turned-linebacker Keanu Neal.

The guy was a Captain on Sunday, released on Wednesday, signed with new team on Thursday. Shit moves fast.

"The Cowboys asked Jaylon Smith to remove his injury guarantee for 2022. He declined. He would still be with Cowboys if he gave up the guarantee.
But he would have been cut in offseason. Now he is a Packer, playing for contender with more playing time.
The business of football"

#Packers edge rusher Chauncey Rivers suffered a non-contact knee injury at practice yesterday, source said, and is being evaluated for a potentially significant injury. He’s slated to miss time either way and likely heads to IR to make room for Jaylon Smith today.

And Campbell has better run defense and pass rush, so if one of them is used like an edge rusher in certain packages, I'm guessing it will be Campbell, at least after the coaches/players feel Smith is comfortable with the scheme and calls etc.

Veteran minimum lol. Cowboys still paying him $7.2. Slick move by Gutey. I like it.

And now he's being released. I had some high hopes for him.
