Green Bay Packers Sign DB Dominique Martin & Place Randy Ramsey on IR

The Green Bay Packers made a new addition on Thursday, signing cornerback Dominique Martin, who they recently had in for a workout.

Martin played his college ball at Tarleton State University, and his final season came in 2016. He began as a receiver, totaling [URL=https://tarletonsports.com/sports/football/roster/dominique-martin/7413" target="_blank]34 receptions[/URL] for 486 yards with three touchdowns over two seasons.

During his final year, Martin transitioned to cornerback, where he logged 41 total tackles, one of which was for a loss, along with one sack, five interceptions, and 15 pass breakups.

Since leaving college, he has spent time playing in Europe and, more recently, in The Spring League. Martin is considered an NFL rookie and has no NFL experience. Prior to working out with the Packers, Martin also had tryouts with Seattle and New England.

Given the recent injury to Stanford Samuels that has kept him out of practice -- the timetable for his return his unknown right now -- coupled with the fact that the Green Bay Packers didn't have many cornerbacks to begin with, this is a move to help bolster depth at the position.

The corresponding move to create space on the roster for Martin was that Randy Ramsey was placed on IR, and his season is now over. Last week Ramsey left practice with an ankle injury, and right away, it was believed to be quite severe.

Ramsey was the team's fourth edge rusher in 2020 but where the team will truly miss him is on special teams. According to [URL=https://www.pff.com/" target="_blank]PFF[/URL], he took the fourth most special teams snaps of any Packer last season and had the third-highest grade.

Green Bay will now turn to second-year players Jonathan Garvin or Tipa Galeai to fill that role.

As for Martin, it doesn't matter to me if he's in camp because Samuels is injured. He won't make the team. The best he can hope for is a place on the PS. Then again GB has had some success with PS CBs.
