The only thing that hass really pissed me off this year.

I think you, who know me, know I love M.M. and T.T.

I can understand the injuries this year and it does not piss me off, I can understand that the D-Line has to be fixed.. But it does not piss me off. I can understand that Aaron has not had "The Game Winning Drive" (Even though in my mind he has the D did not hold it.) and it does not piss me off.

I can understand the musical chair punting game, and it does not piss me off. I can understand the Brett loyalist being so irrational some times, and it does not piss me off. I can understand not being able to log into Packers Home Game Day Chat without jumping through hoops, and it does not piss me off.

But I must say, the ONE AND ONLY THING that has pissed me off this year about the Packers is this.

Nonstopdrivel posted this in the NFL Fourm.

His post went right to my heart, and should have been posted here... So I am not going to steal mt firend Non stopdrivel's thunder...

Here is his post... It reminds me way to much of M.M.'s coaching this year, and is the only thing that has pissed me off about the Packers and M.M. this year.

POSTED BY NONSTOPDRIVEL:

So I'm watching the Giants-Panthers game, which has been a fantastic game all the way into the fourth quarter. (In the interests of full disclosure: I was rooting for the Panthers). Then something happens that makes me want to yell profanities and throw sharp objects at my HD screen.

With 9:21 remaining in the fourth quarter, New York pins Carolina on their own 1 yard line. So rather than throwing a pass to give themselves some breathing room, what does Carolina do? They proceed to run DeAngelo Williams off right guard for 2 yards.

Okay, fine.

So I'm thinking they're going to pass on second down? No! They run Williams up the middle, straight into the teeth of New York's defensive line for -1 yard.

That means they must surely pass on third down, right? After all, Delhomme has been converting third-and-longs all night, several for long yardage, and they have a receiver in Steve Smith who's proven he can catch the long bomb.

NO! They run it off left tackle to Williams AGAIN, this time for three yards, forcing them to punt from their own end zone and give New York the ball back on their own 44 yard line!

At that point I knew they'd lost the game.

Why, oh, why, oh, why do coaches get so conservative just when they should be lunging for the jugular? Why are they so worried about the possibility of an interception that they'd rather score no points than take a risk?

Please feel free to contribute more examples of pussified playcalling that drives you nuts.

Sadly, I'm sure we'll see some examples from our own coaching staff tonight.

So your saying we were too conservative? Maybe. But McCarthy ran solid games, and we had the lead at the end, giving it to our defense. We saw what happend after that. The point is, we were in good positions to win. We were put in those positions by our coaches.

Idk, running from your own end-zone always seemed like the smart option to me, especially whenyou hve the RBs Carolina does. Ok, maybe on 2nd down , being nearly 5 yards away from your own endzone, you could pass, but the first down run seems like a good call to me.

I, also, like to see coaches play a bit more aggressive from time to time. I loved it when Peyton just sent back the kicking unit and got the first. Someimtes it takes guts to get the glory. Petty much always, actually.

Things could be worse Raider, everyone knows i don't care to much for MM, but after watching the Jets game i'm in love with MM lol. Here are some examples 4th and a foot at the Seattle 2 opening drive kicks a fg. My opinion you have a good running game and you better get that foot. Later in the game they kick a fg that was good by atleast 10 yards but delay of game penalty moves them back 5 yards and he punts the ball. Then to top it off down by 7 with like 3:30 left on 4th and long he goes for it on his own 20. After watching that i can live with MM's conservative play calling.
Just Imagine this for the next 6-9 years. What a ride it will be 🙂 (PS, Zero should charge for this)

I think most of the coaches in the NFL will run the ball in that situation. Up by 8 points and the ball at the 1. You run the ball to get room. I don't this is questionable playcalling.
The world needs ditch diggers too Danny!!!

Reminds me of screaming at the t.v. that we might as well punt on third down when we "run" the ball on 3rd and 19.

You want to finish your career here?

Not three times in a row with the score close. By running three and a row you're not guaranteeing a first down but more room for your punter so it doesn't get blocked. Giving up that kind of field position? Not a good idea.

I'm sorry, I just can't endorse a set of play calls that results in your giving the ball back to one of the best teams in the league on the 44. It's not like they had to toss a bomb to Steve Smith -- short passes would have been enough to get them past the 11. Running three consecutive rushes for a net 2 yards is capitulation, pure and simple.

The Panthers deserved to lose.

I don't agree with the conservative calling all the time, but it's easily explainable. Herd mentality. It's safer to live by conventions. It's safer to go with what is conventional. That way, if your decision turns out to be wrong, everyone else was wrong too, thus you don't get blamed.

The fact is, coaches want to win and they want to keep their job. If a coach consistently goes against the norm, those times his decisions fail become reasons for his exit. They're the easily pointed out "mistakes".
