Adrian Amos restructures contract to save Packers $750k in salary cap space...

The Packers’ excellent veteran safety is getting a check a week earlier than expected and helping his team free up a little bit of cap money for the coming season. The Green Bay Packers made a minor move on Friday to free up a small amount of salary cap space for the 2021 season. Green Bay has until 4:00 PM Eastern on Wednesday to get under the cap, which is set at a base value of $182.5 million, and they have around $9.4 million to go.
On Friday, the Packers reportedly restructured the contract of safety Adrian Amos, picking up $750,000 in cap space for the season. According to Bill Huber of SI.com , the team converted Amos’ $1.5 million roster bonus (which was due to be paid out on March 20th) into a signing bonus. By doing so, that money gets split up evenly over the two remaining years of the contract, shifting $750k off the 2021 books and into 2022.
Amos was one of the NFL’s best safeties last season, and has lived up to the hefty four-year, $36 million deal he signed as a free agent in 2019. He has recorded more than 80 tackles in each of his two years in Green Bay, adding two interceptions in each season and a total of 17 passes defended. Importantly, he has also contributed in a variety of alignments, playing well in the box and as a deep safety, as well as lining up as a hybrid inside linebacker at times.
Although this move does not make a huge dent in the Packers’ cap overage, every little bit of added space helps as the team gets ready to begin the new league year.
