The Packers defensive lineman hasn’t played since Week 1 but appears to be heading in the right direction. Kenny Clark is practicing for the Packers today ahead of their Week 3 matchup with the Saints .
This could be big for the Packers' 😨 Kenny Clark (groin) is practicing for the first time since Week 1. https://t.co/kISfVgPtCL pic.twitter.com/KYkKRTNlAl — Rob Demovsky (@RobDemovsky) September 24, 2020
Clark did not participate in practice on Wednesday and has been a no-go for the Packers since leaving their Week 1 game against the Vikings with a groin injury. His absence against the Lions in Week 2 was the first time he’d missed a game since 2018.
The Packers could certainly use his help, too. Though the Saints still largely center their offense around Drew Brees and the passing game, Alvin Kamara and Latavius Murray have carried the ball a combined 43 times through two weeks, though neither is averaging better than four yards per carry on the season.
In Clark’s absence, the Packers have largely turned to Za’Darius Smith in a stand up “rover” role in the middle of the defensive line, to varying degrees of success. No matter how good Smith can be in that role, though, he’s certainly a step down from Clark, whose return could bolster a defense in need of all the help it can get.
