The Packers continue to pare their roster ahead of practices. The Packers have released two more players as they pare down their roster ahead of training camp practices, cutting quarterback Jalen Morton and fullback Elijah Wellman .
Morton was an undrafted free agent out of Prairie View A&M. The fourth quarterback on the roster, his release comes just a few days after the Packers cut his A&M teammate Jordan Jones. With first-round pick Jordan Love and experienced backup Tim Boyle already on the roster, Morton’s path to the roster was essentially practice squad or bust, his claims of being able to throw a football 100 yards notwithstanding .
Wellman, meanwhile, has played the hybrid fullback/tight end role the Packers are increasingly looking for, but he seems to also have been rendered redundant by the Packers’ recent addition of John Lovett .
The Packers roster now stands at 81 players , not including the four they’ve placed on the COVID-19 reserve list. No new players have been added to the list since Jace Sternberger , Mason Crosby , and Trayvon Hester last week.
