I'm going to pray that Sanders is given the heave-ho this offseason (hell, I'd do it right now if it were up to me). But, who would you have replace him? Here's my list:

Winston Moss - Promote from within! Guy seems to have tremendous upside and the transition wouldn't be as harsh as bringing in a new guy.

Bo Pelini - LSU's defensive coordinator. Fast, blitzing, attacking, uptempo - all used to describe his defense. Hell, he's already got NFL calibur talent, why not give him a whole NFL defense to work with.

Will Muschamp - Texas' Defensive coordinator and heir apparent at head coach. But, maybe Green Bay can lure him away. A fiery leader who will restore passion to the defense.

Dick LeBeau - Old, but a master of the 3-4. Let him retool the defense in an entirely new way. There's a reason the Steelers have a top five NFL defense year in and year out, and he's it.

The old Kiffin from TB. If I'm correct his contract will end this year.

I hate to pick on you, but except for Moss, these are all retarded or implausible ideas. And some would argue that Moss hasn't done that great of a job in the position he's in. Quick, name a college Defensive Coordinator that has had a successful transition to the NFL. In fact, name one that's even made that leap. And why on earth would Dick Lebeau leave the Steelers for lateral move?

If you're just going to throw out big names, you might as well start with Jim Haslett or Mike Nolan or Rod Marinelli. At least these guys have pro DC (except for Marinelli - though I see him running Tampa's D if/when Kiffin follows his son to Tennesse) experience and will actually be available.

Great post Matt. Good point raised about Moss, not sure why people are so high on him.

Personally, I'd start the search with Greg Williams. I'm not sure if he is a DC currently though. I vaguely recall he joined the Jags this year... was it as DC?

I'd love to see Bo Pellini come to Green Bay.

Implausible? Oh hells yeah. Retarded? Well that seems a bit harsh. Just trying a bit of out-of-the box thinking. Can I think of any college coordinator that's made a jump like that to the NFL? Now that you put me on the spot, no. But the thing I like about all of these guys is that they have fire, they've got passion, they've got heart and to me, watching that game today, it seems like that's something that's missing on the defensive side of the ball.

I apologize for not taking the straight-line, tired old crappy retreads the NFL has to offer.
