Dolphins trade Keith Jackson to Packers

The Miami Dolphins Wednesday traded veteran tight end Keith Jackson to the Green Bay Packers. In the deal, the Dolphins sent Jackson, a five-time Pro Bowl selection, to the Packers and returned a fourth round draft pick obtained from Green Bay in an earlier trade for wide receiver Mark Ingram.

Miami receives a second round draft pick (53rd overall) in next month's draft. Jackson, who will be 30 next month, became expendable when the Dolphins signed two-time Pro Bowl tight end Eric Green to a six-year contract earlier this month. Green left the Pittsburgh Steelers as an unrestricted free agent. 'Keith Jackson did a good job for us in his years with the Dolphins,' said Miami Coach Don Shula. 'We are hopeful that we will be able to get a player with the Green Bay Packers' second round draft choice that will help us either on offense or defense.'

The 6-foot-2, 258-pound Jackson, who originally broke into the NFL with the Philadelphia Eagles, caught 59 passes for 673 yards and seven touchdowns last season. Over the past seven seasons, Jackson has caught more passes (388) for more yards (4,636) and more touchdowns (38) than any tight end in the league. His 388 receptions rank second to Minnesota's Steve Jordan (498) among active tight ends.

Jackson did NOT want to play here. It took his friend Reggie White to convince him to play in Green Bay.

Jackson was an important part of our offense, the 2 TE combo of him and Chumura opened up a lot of possibilities. I hope we can have something similar this year. I know it won’t be as good as that though, (unless we are VERY lucky)
